90 Grand Prix Turn Signal help needed

Recommended Posts

I have a 90 SE Grand prix and I need help. My turn signal will not come on and stay on when i put it in the up position to turn right. what do I need to do to get to the connections. I can keep it on if i hold it up in place hard. It still clicks off after i complete the turn so I know the actual unit still works like it should but seems like the contacts might be dirty.

I do not have airbags in that car.

Sounds like you need the cancel cam. It is sold in most parts stores. Its also really easy to replace once you get the steering wheel off.

I read it to say the signal switch is in the on postion but the lights do not work.

inspect all your exterior lights. parking, harazrds and such. make sure you have no burned out bulbs.

if they all check out good with the harards, then is is proably a switch,. new ones are avaiolbe form most part stores, but I have had good luck cleaning them, as long as they hadn't started smoking yet, a sign the plastic in the switch had been ruined.

oh man...i have the smoking problem..hahaha so i need a whole new switch then ehh?

I've heard that the smoking problem is just from excess dielectric grease. I wouldn't worry about the smoking.

so what piece do I need once I get the steering wheel off? Do I need the lever or do I need the actual switch that is circular. I looked them up online and thats why I am asking because it would be nice to have this fixed.

I also heard the same thing about the smoking from GEARHEAD43

Mine did the same thing.. smokeing is just exess dirt and grease. I simply used my steering wheel puller , took the wheel off. Pulled the black plastic signal assembly out which was slightly worn. Popped the bolt like pin out and snapped another assembly from a yard car and popped it into mine.

mine smoked... once... but it works, you just have to hold it in (like you would to turn on the brights...)
