Oil Pump Drive Shaft Seal...Part 2

I managed to find time to get it off today...I tried the vise grip and it would not budge. There ws a fair amount of rtv on there holding it on too.I scraped all I could off with a razor blade and then with a chisel and hammer,I made a few taps at an angle at the base and block and it popped up some..then was able to pull it up a bit,but left it alone for now.Its ready to come out.

Funny thing is,theres No paper gasket on there. Was just black rtv.

Did someone fix this before or did GM not use a paper gasket there? If it only needs rtv Im going to use the permatex "the right stuff" on there, and going to use it on the china walls on the block.Heck ill use it anywhere it needs rtv!

:D

From the factory there is just a rubber O-ring on the drive shaft. No gasket, so to speak.

I didnt notice the O ring, but whats with the rtv that was on there?GM or some mechanic maybe?

low quality ghetto rigging.

I would replace the rubber O-ring and add a paper gasket for double protection

Sounds good..since its like a distributor shaft,I was going to use a fel pro gasket there on the block.I used those on my v8's before with distributors all the time.

Never had leaks, mustve been a ghetto repair!

Definetly a mechanic. You can actually buy a small gasket and it will go on there and fit. I just dont know how well it will work. The O-ring is about 1/2 inch down on the oil pump plug thingy.
