93CutlassSupreme
I've been suffering with a wheel/tire that keeps on loosing air. I pulled a metal shard out of the tread and plugged the hole, but that only partially solved the problem. The tire still leaks air. I sprayed the tire down with soap and water, and to my dissapointment the valve stem bubbled, where it comes through the wheel. I have tightened the valve stem, but I highly doubt that will do any good. Can I fix this valve stem without dismounting the tire, installing a new valve stem, and remounting the tire? 19Cutlass94
To replace the valve stem you have to remove the tire. Since the really only way to put the valve stem on is through the rim. So youll have to have it mounted and balanced. It shouldnt cost that much at all. The local shop here dos it for $27.
Brian P
If you're chummy with the local tire shop, they might just dismount the outer tire bead, and slam a new one in, inflate, and you're good to go. There's really no other way to fix a leaky valve stem if it's leaking at the base. Long time no see!

5speedz34
Come to my Wal-Mart or any Wal-Mart for that matter. Should be $9.50 for the repair and $1.75 for the stem. They might just charge you for the stem.
jeremy
FWIW: discount tire will normally repair tires for free, whenever I had one leaking I would just bring it in and say "this one leaks, can you see if you can fix it"....then I come back in an hour and it is repaired if it was possible to do so
marcusa
I paid $8/ea. to get my tires mounted, computer spin balanced, and new valve stems, and I didn't even buy the tires there (got the from Tire Rack). Shop around, just don't go to any Joe Schmoe out there. Good luck, leaky tires are hell. If you want to buff up buy a good bicycle pump and just pump it before you drive everytime. You'll get ripped in no time!
