aleinxyu
i asked in the powertrain section in my other topic but i figured i'd ask here as well seeming as how this is the proper place.. i have a 1997 monte carlo z34 when i turn the wheel to the left i get a loud squeek, also when i hit a bump i hear something in the rear aswell on the drivers side but the spare tire doesn't have anything holding it down so i'm going to autozone today to see if i can find the proper wing nut to hold it down. Q-Ball
Could be low on steering fluid or need some new outer tie rods. That was my problem. As for going over bumps, my cars pads jiggle. I thought only 1 did, but they all do it. So I'm gluing them in place.
aleinxyu
lol yeah i just read your topic, fluid is good if not a tad over filled it seems to do it more when you turn the wheel to the left and only under acceleration i didn't get to look this morning but i'm going to tomorrow. aleinxyu
alright this morning i went out jacked the car up on both sides and checked the tie-rods pushing and pulling the tire side to side and the ball joints using the jack handle and pulling up under the tire. no play, although i think i see the factory struts it has a gm tag so i'm not sure if they are oe or have been replaced before. how do i replace the struts? do i need a sprint compressor or can i just remove the inserts? i usually wouldn't ask these question because i would've already went and bought a haynes manual but it seems a bit hard to find so they are ordering one for me but god knows when it will be here. anywho thanks for the reply's i'm ready to get this thing riding right now that it's running halfway decent. 1990lumina
if u take everything out of the trunk, including the spare and drive around does it still make noise?? If so replace your rear struts....my Lumina had loud banging sounds from the rear and both my rear struts were shot

RJansen658
Yes that is correct. They can be changed in under 15 minutes with air tools. you are supposed to use a "W-Body strut service kit" that auto parts stores rent for free here with a deposit. It can be done without it rather easy if you have a decent selection of tools. I know Murray's and Autozone rent the service kit. Word of advice, get all the old strut oil out of the strut tube when ou change to the cartridges if someone hasn't alreay. We got come back all the time because the mechanic didn't get out all the oil and it drips down to the ground slowly.
