95oldsVan
I noticed a popping noise coming from the CV joint area on my 97 GP passenger side.If I need to replace,is advance or autozones reman parts any good? (I know about their waterpumps, alt, and starters, but never used a CV joint or axle shaft from them) I never had to replace one in all the years of owning FWD cars...finally I think its gonna be my turn to do so.Just wanted to know if I can depend on the stores parts for it to last a while. If not,who would you go with? Thanks!
89GP_SE
I myself have never had problems with stores like that for auto parts, just make sure it has warranty (and a good one) dont get something that has like 90 day warranty, cause those parts are a joke. Your better off to get the best quality and best warranty one and pay the extra cash. And make sure the parts you get have warranty that doesnt void if you fix it yourself. DiscoStudd
Only one time did I ever replace an axle with a parts store part (and spent close to $200 for the part - passenger side axle for an 87 GA.) Nowadays, I buy them from the boneyard. You can typically get a driver's side axle for a GM for $35 (with warranty) and it won't cost you more than $70 to have a shop install it for you. I've went several years without problems from the boneyard axles I've purchased. Might be worth a look, especially if you're on a tight budget... 95oldsVan
Thanks Buddy, I may try the boneyards but so far, there isnt any good ones close by me that has good stuff. I can also change the axles out myself, done them on other cars before.Got all the tools I need to boot too..helps alot when on a tight budget this time of year. My neighbor, who also fixes cars on the side, got a fwd axle for a ford probe from the wannabe local boneyard..average price was 60 bucks he told me...POS was the wrong one anyways and they decided to go with a unit from advance for a hundred something..said so far it was OK,hope the car wont come back for the same problem.
