Stevo Posted July 27, 2006 Author Report Posted July 27, 2006 Guessy Guessy This model will split at this point where I will continue on with the theme but the other will hopefully become a 1:18 scale paper model (me hopes) Since I own a Cutlass Coupe I think I have enough interior references. =) I just gotta buy a real digital camera. fastbird232 Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Wow, Stevo, that looks pretty awesome! But wouldn't having a 'vert make it harder to build? Quote
wildbill Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 great job the spoiler looks like a euro spoiler not a z34 Quote
mihela816 Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 Now you have to make a model of that Lumina for Need for Speed 3. Quote
Stevo Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 I had an issue with my system last week and today decided to restore my projects folder. lucky me. If anyone has any front, left or right, rear and top views of their coupes please let me know. Here is the catch. They cannot have any perspective at all which may require you to shoot from a distance with a zoom on. This will help me create accurate models for phase 2 of the project which I hope with be ... well scale models 1:18. ps. I am back working on the Cutlass. Quote
Stevo Posted August 18, 2006 Author Report Posted August 18, 2006 Update. Just did a build of the Z34. I'm glad I did'nt immediately create a build of this model but waited a while. This way the design is not still in mind when I go to assemble it. I can see some immediate changes to help negotiate the build. There are many fold lines that should be on the model to help shape it. Perhaps some tips and tricks are needed to help those who have never built a card model and finally the Z34 requires a slight body modification for a better form. I have posted some pics in the thread start. These are with my crappy phone camera so it's very hard to tell how clean the build is. Now particulars. I printed the car on 90lb Gloss coated stock. Yes its very thick to cut but carefully cutting the parts apart with soft repetitive cuts you can seperate the parts from the sheet without tearing the layers apart or flaring the edges of parts. It's not necessary to cut out a part with one hard cut. It's actually dangerous as one put's focus on strength instead of control resulting in a serious 'owie'. The Gloss stock gives the model a painted finish look. Also I have found that printing the image at 300dpi results in a very clean and crisp graphic detail. Again there are a considerable ammount of fold lines missing and this will be evident when it comes time to put together the front and rear Bumper Covers, Under Carriage and Under Body. I just scaled the edges that the folds met up with and marked them on the model where they should have been to meet up. Not the best idea, just the only idea. Fold lines are burnished by using a dead ball point pen and a metal straight edge. Line up the straight edge and pass the pen over the fold line. Don't press too hard since you will weaken the paper and cause the part to tear. Fold lines are easier to create on the parts before you cut them from the sheet. This is especially so for small triangular tabs. __________________________________________________________________________ The toughest part of the model are the mufflers. They are incredibly small and there isnt very much to go on in regards to their assembly. When cutting out the muffer body its better to cut a larger tab on the thin end at A to help with glueing together the part and allow more room to plug the end cap D in. The tab can hold enough glue to create the oval shape which you can then fold all tabs inward and then fold the round cap B down over top of the tabs. The end cap of the muffler D with the exaust pipe C should be assembled together by splaying the small and very thin tabs apart and glueing them (a pen can be used to hold the exaust pipe end in place while the tabs are folded and glued) THEN after it dries plug it into the end of the muffler trying to get the tabs inside. Both mufflers can be placed on the under the vehicle as per image above. __________________________________________________________________________ Assembly of the wheels is an easy task. Again burnish fold lines where the tabs are before cutting and carefully and lightly with a sharp blade cut the round shapes to allow for a round wheel. The Rim at A when cut out will have all rim face tabs glued behind it. Again allow a larger tab for easier glueing the inside rim lip. The outer tabs will play in the reverse of the rim face, outwards and will glue B to the back of the tire sidewall on C. When this dries glue the tire tread tab to its opposide side to form the outer tire face as indicated by the orange line. When dry the D part can fold up and the sidewall should match up with the tread. __________________________________________________________________________ Folds for the noseclip are as shown in the image above on the dotted white lines. Another tricky spot is the front bumper cover. The best solution for this is to just cut off the tiny tabs where the noseclip V's. Once this is done you can push together at A and keep them fastened with a small strip of glued paper. The same can be done at B __________________________________________________________________________ Even though there are fold lines missing on the underbody they can be easily found by scoring between the tab valleys. The undercarriage parts require you to measure the undercarriage end caps and mark on the face where the scoring should be done. __________________________________________________________________________ I hope this helps. I will be re-releasing a fixed version of this model WITH a proper Z34 spoiler instead of the Euro one. Don't forget the finished build pics on the first page. Quote
