slick Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Brian, when did you swap to the 3500 intake plenum?? Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 Coming our way!!! Brian, when did you swap to the 3500 intake plenum?? x2! Im thinking of what intakes I should swap on mine. Quote
slick Posted July 20, 2006 Author Report Posted July 20, 2006 Coming our way!!! Brian, when did you swap to the 3500 intake plenum?? x2! Im thinking of what intakes I should swap on mine. Well, for you, you would have to do a bit more work than Brian. If I were you, I'd swap over the 3400 heads and lower intake, and the 3500 plenum and TB. Quote
Stevo Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 I wan't to get the game Guitar Hero since my brother has a PS2. It's 89 bucks though. Quote
GP1138 Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 I'd love to get 3500 intakes, but I don't know if it'd net me any gains or take away another 5hp. Quote
slick Posted July 20, 2006 Author Report Posted July 20, 2006 I'd love to get 3500 intakes, but I don't know if it'd net me any gains or take away another 5hp. The 3500 intake plenum would help out on the high end just a bit more. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 I can't see it being worth buying 3500 parts for old 3100s. You can only push these engines so far... maybe a 3500 intake on a 3400 would be worth it, having the extra cubic inches... Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I think I read on 60*v6 that a ported&polished 3400 upper intake would actually flow better than the 3500 ported&polished, Ill have to find this again. Found it; In stock form this plenum underflows the stock 3400 plenum but has still proven itself on the road for a better powerband and more power overall. Quote
Dirty Rockstar Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I vote this thread be re-titled: "60 degree intake plenums and you- How to make the right choice." Quote
Brian P Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I vote this thread be re-titled: "60 degree intake plenums and you- How to make the right choice." LOL yeah! ....there's some advantages to this plenum, you actually feel more power off the line thru mid-range, like the 2500-3000 rpm lag is really not there anymore. The car right now really takes off after 4000 RPM, I don't know whether to credit the plenum or the new mufflers for that one. Also to port this plenum is freakishly easy, and will allow it to flow well. Plus on top of that, the TB opening is 65mm stock (easier to upgrade). I installed it about 2 months ago. Quote
White93z34 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 so do you think it flows better then the garry coleman intake plenum? Quote
GP1138 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 so do you think it flows better then the garry coleman intake plenum? I want the Kevin Bacon Ported Plenum and Intake Manifold! Quote
logikf1ve Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Here I was thinking you needed a Pontiac.. Dangit. Quote
Vegeta Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Thats what I thought, pontiac:P The 3500 plenum is the best bet, hands down. I would rather not ever port another 3400 plenum when the 3500 plenum swap is so much easier/better. Ported, the 3500 plenum beats the ported 3400 (even my version, not the basic port match that rsm..oops, z-spec does/did. Using a 3400 lower and 3500 plenum on a 3100 would be great. Upgrading to 3400 heads would be a big plus too. Yes, rename it:P Not often I catch a conversation here that I can contribute on:) Quote
slick Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 IMO, I still think Gary Coleman's "pretty fly for a short guy" supercharger kit will yield the best gains. But, Kevin's Bacon's intake was a pretty nice setup also. Quote
slick Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 LOL, it went from brian needing a poncho to Kevin Bacon's intake manifold that is now in Powertrain. Anywho, how's the weather Brian?? Quote
Dirty Rockstar Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Im going to get a complete 3400 top end setup for my Vert when I get it, strap it to my MPFI, and get the 3500 plenum.. Yea! That's be COOL! Quote
slick Posted July 21, 2006 Author Report Posted July 21, 2006 Im going to get a complete 3400 top end setup for my Vert when I get it, strap it to my MPFI, and get the 3500 plenum.. Yea! That's be COOL! MPFI? Does it have the 3.1 in it? If so, that would be a pretty cool set-up. If you really wanted it to spin fast, swap for a 2.8 crank. Quote
Dirty Rockstar Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 Yea, it has the 3.1.. I dont think Ill swap a 2.8 crank in right away.. Spinnin fast is cool, but thats what the Lumi will be for Quote
IRONDOG442 Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 3.500 is that the same block as the 3400 SFI Quote
Dirty Rockstar Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 I know theyre both 6 60s but I am not sure as to whether the blocks are the same.. Quote
ShockTherapy Posted July 21, 2006 Report Posted July 21, 2006 you all forgot about the Leonard Nimoy Logical Drive system... it adds exactly 0 horsepower...it's only logical. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 3500 has a bigger bore than a 3400. Same stroke. Thats what I thought, pontiac:P The 3500 plenum is the best bet, hands down. Yes, rename it:P Not often I catch a conversation here that I can contribute on:) Now on the 3500 plenum, are all the vaccum lines and everything in the same place, or will you need to modify something. Kinda sounds like a dumb question, but Ive never seen a 3500 plenum. And especially when the 3500 is cheaper than the 3400 from you as well! Quote
DiscoStudd Posted July 22, 2006 Report Posted July 22, 2006 So lemme get this straight, the 3500 UIM will bolt directly onto the 3400 LIM without modification? What other mods need to be done to synch everything up? Does the 3400's cable-driven throttle body bolt in place of the 3500's DBW TB easily? My curiosity is piqued by this, although I'm sure I wouldn't see much in the way of gains on my Impy with a 3500 UIM unless I also swap in a cam and had the heads and LIM port-matched (not to mention installing a less restrictive exhaust.) Something to definitely think about, though! Quote
