chadz34
When I am driving over 60 km/h....and I apply the brakes they pulsate really bad kinda like a ''thud thud'' when I am going fast enough, I know it isn't pads or rotors becuase I changed them both TWICE thinking they were warped....I am lost...what could my problem be? DiscoStudd
What condition are your tires in? Are they properly balanced? Out of round? Any damage to the wheels at all? Did you make sure to clean the rust off the surface of the hub(s) before installing your new rotors? Did you torque the caliper mounting brackets to the proper spec (and coat the threads with anti-sieze) ? Are your lugnuts tight?
herb427sc
Lugnuts---100 ft/lbs.
SigEpCutlass
Lugnuts---100 ft/lbs. Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure that my Haynes manual states that it is 60 ft/lbs IIRC.
tdaye
i had the same problem with the rear of my cutlass and it turn out it was the right rear hub, it was slightly warped and seems to get worse when it was hot outside. It wasn't warped enough to notice any shimmy in the rear end, and no vibrations at all either. If you take the tire off and spin the hub does it seems to be warped at all? I changed my rotor 3 times before I figured it out.

Yeah, that's the right torque. That's what we torque them to at work.
1990lumina
as long as u don't overtorque them...that'll fuck up ur new rotors
White93z34
did you ever change out those dry rotted tires? does it do it on both sides of the car or just one?
Crazy K
Bad tires really ruin a car's performance. and they can cause the problems you speak of. are they dry rotted?
White93z34
as far as i know they are, he posted some pictures last winter.
RJansen658
Is the thud thud felt in the brake pedal? Is it felt in the steering wheel? If its in the wheel also then focus on the front end. Not much that can cause it on a w-body... assuming everything is tight. Has to be rotors or wheel bearings, also check the front caliper brackets for wear grooves that are preventing the pads from sliding back and forth. W-Body front wheel bearings can be horribly bad and not give any indication in ride quality, my are horrible right now, but you can't feel it while driving. Jack up each wheel one by one and see if you get any movement top to bottom or side to side. I am still leaning towards rotors though... chadz34
I can feel it in the wheel and the pedal, it's only when I apply the brakes though so wouldn't that eliminate the wheel bearing?? It is a nice ride when coasting and accelerating but soon as I touch the brakes it is bad. The tires are still the original, but again....only when braking? White93z34
is there a chance that you have a broken calliper bolt? or even a loose one may cause that? however if you've changed the brakes twice i'd think you'd have notied it then. can you feel it on one side more then the other? chadz34
It feels like it's the right side. I am really stumped. I want to do this myself rather than pay. I just don't have the money right now. The caliper bottom bolts looked broken on one side, I checked the other and it looked the same. So, I don't think there's anything wrong there. Weird thing is, it's only when I apply the brakes I get thumping and shit from the right side. Once I let off....it's smooth. And maybe related to the same problem, but when i am at about 140 km/h (80 mph) the car shakes a bit. I don't know if it should or not. White93z34
if its namely coming from one side, heres what i'd do: swap the front tires with the back see if it stays the same, if it does then thats ruled out how bad were your old rotors, was the right side any more tore up then the left? if so, i'd consider replacing the calliper on that side and the general questions, do your balljoints have any play, any play in the rod ends? GP1138
Maybe one of your calipers is sticking and causing the rotor to warp. I know my driver rear caliper sticks sometimes, and I always have pulsation. I just ignore it.

I will get it checked out and fix it myself.
