interchanging parts 91 CS to 92 GP

motor/tranny are the same. (3.1/4t60 I assume the CS is all stock)

was discussing the procedure with my mech over the weekend... definitely good idea to take all wiring harnesses & check all wiring...computer?

The CS has been sitting for over two years, just here at my place. before it sat, it ran and ran well, but the alternator is bad, and is missing fuel relays that were stolen for my friend's bonneville, so i can't run it... not that I care...

Can I also use the steering column/rack/rack&pinion or whatever? my steering is starting to have catches in it and my rack leaks a bit... are they the same?

Anything else that I can use on my car, let me know!

my mech wanted to keep the engine and tranny on the same frame and put my Prix on it instead of the CS. Make sense or how does it need to be done?

I need answers... he's worked on both cars but never swapped between them and I want this shit done right.

it makes sense, and I believe it could be done either way.

it would not be especially difficult to move the engine and tranny from one frame to another. Christ!!! there are only four nuts that need to be removed to do that, after all the work to remove the frame with engine and tranny attached.

I would let him know that which ever he decides, you want to use the frame that is in better condition, since swapping the engine, tranny and entire rack is relatively simple once both subframes are removed. He needs to inspect the mounting areas of both frames for rust and fatigue. Do not be susprised if he recommends new mounts btw.

keep in mind I just swapped the engine and tranny of a 92 Lumina into a 92 CS.

well... now i still hear my lumina running when it runs  it should be simple

Can anyone else verify or dismiss the ease of swapping?

the trannys are the same as are the engines... the C100-C200 connector is identical...

but frame and rack I think are identical but do not know.

Should be a direct swap. Only thing to worry with that I can think of could be the A/C wiring. They changed the wiring in the early 90's. I cant remember if it was 90 or 91. Also, the cruise might be different. My 90 STE and 90 Gp coupe had a larger module (large black thing) and my 92 GP had a smaller one, but the wiring is the same on both.

haha motor mounts are all new around my GP... and the cutty is a 91, so if they changed them in early nineties they are probably very similar between a 91 CS and a 92 GP....

I was hoping to do the motor mounts when I swapped engines, they just didn't hold up that long... I know there will be several more recommendations from him as we get into the project...

My concern was the condition of the automatic transmission from the cutlass... it has been sitting for over two years... and i know trannys tend to foul up when they sit.... also, the seals on the bottom of the engine will be soaked and the ones on top will be dry and cracked... i would very much like to replace all seals before putting assembled unit in... and it would be less costly to do it now than to wait and pay for the engine work as each individual seal goes out... i'm afraid they will start leaking like a sieve when it has a few hundred miles on it in my GP...
