PCGUY112887
Well not long ago I noticed my tranny fluid changed colors, and has started shuttering when downshifting from OD with a load on the car (goin up a hill, havin weight in the car, etc). Then today I noticed something similar to what happened to my friends new beetle. I think it was his CV driveshaft something goin out, and it was a cheap fix, but basically when he hit the gas it would feel like say you took a 21spd bike, petaled backwards then fowards again, it would move fowards a bit then all of a sudden BAM you would connect and go foward. Mine did that when I hit the gas off a light, and then I was makin a turn under and power and the whole transmission bucked around everywhere. Only did it once. I'm afraid to see what an auto rebuild is going to cost me, especailly if I want them to try to change the gear ratio or use stronger clutches or anything else I can have them do. What about a 5spd/6spd swap? How much would it run to have someone do that for me? 96 GP BTW.
Dirty Rockstar
Gonna need some OBD2 computer programming, and all the pieces needed for a 5 speed swap.. 5 speed in your situation would be more cost effective than a 6 speed, as the pieces can be gotten at most salvage yards.. Right now, the only FWD 6speed manual out there for GM is from the G6 GTP.. Parts alone (Not including the transmission itself) will run close to 1700 USD.. THe transmission will cost at least that or more depending on your source.. Good luck man.. Search the forum here for some good info on swapping the 5 speed in.. PCGUY112887
Well that is something I coulden't do myself... however would it be cheaper to pay someone else to get everything needed and swap it in vs having my auto rebuilt? What about the used 5spd needing work? I don't know crap about manuals, sure you could slap a new clutch in there but what else may need to be done for a 15 year old transmission? Edit - I'd lose cruise control with a 5spd woulden't I?
