is it possible to install true duals on my 92 prix without them bottoming out? I was thinking of taking it to a local exhaust shop to see if they had any recommendations, but you guys are the compendium of knowledge for these w's.

I don't think bottom out will be the problem, I don't think there is enough room in the floor pan to run two pipes

Kinda what I was thinking myself.

There should be plenty of room in the floorpan to run true duals. I have a 10'' wide muffler in the exhaust tunnel in place of where the original catalytic converter used to be. I wouldn't bother with true duals though. It seems like a big hassle to make and you probably won't gain anything from it save for a slightly different exhaust sound with the "crossover" not being there anymore. You're going to want a really small pipe diameter if you do go with true duals. The stock single to dual setup consists of piping around 2'' diameter which is optimal for a unmodified 3.1 MPFI.

um....you cant use "true duals" since theres only 1 collector/downpipe to begin with, and ive looked underneath mine and there doesnt seem to be any room for 2 pipes up towards the middle of the car near the cat

FYI a 3100 with true duals will sound like complete ass. I have had every exhuast setup on my car in the past 3 months and what I have now sounds the best.

Magnaflow Hi-Flow Cat, Complete cat-back exhuast, Summit Muffler (I might change to Magnaflow)

I have a Flowmaster 40 series for sale jujst to let you know

These engines are far too small to benefit from exhaust mods such as that. You may even lose some sotp torque off the line as well, with just a noisy buzzing resonating cabin driving around.I would invest in a cam/valve springs/valvetrain/maybe heads mod before worrying about the exhaust system being restrictive where its gonna hold you back.

Just my opinion...

lol my block is good but the rest of the engine is toast... I wish I had a way to record sounds so you guys could hear this lifter going apeshit above 4k on the tach... I wasn't worried about power modifications, and i LOVE the tone of my exhaust, I just want it a bit louder.

The only problem is that I don't think a muffler is gonna do that... my mufflers are shot, and I have about a 1 inch diameter hole knocked out of my left exhaust pipe about eight inches before my muffler... need new pipes and mufflers and was just considering my options.

the 3.1 has no power, and i'm not in denial about that, but i have to stick with a 3.1-compatible system because i've got the uncanny feeling that my engine is about to throw a damn rod or something (bitch has broken down on me 5 times in the last 6 weeks...) and I have a spare 3.1/4t60 to go into it... my mechanic used to build race engines, and he suggested some of the mods that 95oldsvan recommended... but I dont think I want to put that kind of work into a 3.1... id rather do it to a 3.4dohc except that his bitch ass wont work on DOHCs..

He doesn't like fords, either. But I dont have ANY of the equipment I need, and I'm nowhere near being a mechanic.

I have a 3100 with a 3.4 DOHC exhaust  Therefore I'm special... :willynilly:

God I need to get rid of that shit, and get something nice on there, this was a temporary fix almost a year ago, and I still got it on there...

special? :P I had a z34 3.4 dual exhaust on my 92 3.1 lumina.

what is your exhust from? ie year and model, 2 or 4 door? I might want it if it was right model.

true duals would be impossible, since you would have to have the pipe come around the front of the engine.

IMO the 3.4 dual exhaust on a 3.1 is perfect... it has a larger pipe and larger muffler, giving it good flow. I feel it's a bit quieter when at idle, but it really lets the engine roar when you start cranking past oh... 3500rpm.

stick with a 3.1 rather than a 3.4.... you might have some lifter tick but it will go alot further...

btw whats happen when you break down?

1.) flowmaster muffler / no resonator (to raspy)

2.) summit muffler / no resonator (to raspy)

3.) magnaflow hi flow cat / summit muffler (not as raspy but fucking LOUD)

4.) magnaflow hi flow cat / summit muffler / glasspack (glasspack pinged sounded like ass)

5.) magnaflow hi flow cat / glasspack (sounded like ass)

6.) current setup magnaflow hi flow cat / cat back exhuast / summit muffler (perrrrrfect)
