CdnCutty
Just wanted to see what you guys/gals do on your oil changes....I usually fill her up with 3.8l/4.0 quarts of oil....but I have friends with the same engines who had 4l instead of 3.8 cause after a few days the dipstick reads 3 holes not 4..obviously there some in the engine..but they stick to adding 4 l that way the stick always reads full...what do you guys think.... 19Cutlass94
I put 4qts in, start it up, let the car get hot, then shut it off and check the oil again.
Regal_GS_1989
when i change my oil and filter on my 3.1 and 3100 engines, I usually add a 4.4L jug of oil to it, and its usually bang on at the full mark. My 3.4 on the other hand... i usually add about 5.3 L to bring it to the full mark.
THe_DeTAiL3R
It's 3.8L + whatever the oil filter takes... Generally I just dump 1 jug in (4L or 4.4L) and it's fine.
Robby1870
I usually put about 4 and 2/3 quarts in my 3.1L, that includes the filter. 3.8L (4 quarts) seems a little low if you include the filter.
Addicted2bass
I usually put 5 quarts in mine. Is that to much? its usually a little over the fill mark but the engine should take 5 with no problem right?
J
i always use 5, there shouldn't be a problem with foaming, since the level is a tiny bit above the full mark with 5 qts
CdnCutty
So what is the recommended amount of oil that GM lists for oil to be added at a full oil change(includes filter)
CdnCutty
Answered my own question....the recommendation is 3.8L or 4 quarts..plus .50L/.50 quarts if you change the filter...so 4,3L or 4.5 quarts.......so my next change I`ll pour in a 4.4L bottle .....and that should do the trick..thanks for all the help guys!!! Lee
I usually put about 4 and 2/3 quarts in my 3.1L, that includes the filter. 3.8L (4 quarts) seems a little low if you include the filter. Ditto
GutlessSupreme
I usually put about 4 and 2/3 quarts in my 3.1L, that includes the filter. 3.8L (4 quarts) seems a little low if you include the filter. Ditto x3.
Brian P
I put in 5 qts, but I also use a PF-52 size filter, as opposed to GM wanting my engine to use PF-47. The level is at max with 5 qts.
SigEpCutlass
I usually put in about 4 1/2 quarts because I have a HD capacity Amsoil oil filter. I'd say it depends on the filter.
97loudcut
I always put 5 in. no biggy

CdnCutty
To be honest I didn`t expect it to get to 2 pages...but it`s cool to see how different people take care in changing there oil
Euro
i usually put about 4.5- 4 3/4 quarts in. I'll put 4 in, start her up, take it off the ramps, level it back out in the garage..shut it off..check the filter, and then add the rest
nebojsa_o
I just pour in 4.4L, and it's always at the full mark, so I didn't even think if that was the right ammount or not... To be honest I didn`t expect it to get to 2 pages...but it`s cool to see how different people take care in changing there oil I only remember one member being here who did all sorts of shit to a nice GP, and admitted to not changing his own oil Anyone know who I'm talking about??? CdnCutty
For as long as I`ve owned my cars I`ve been doing my own oil changes, I can`t trust anyone else to do them......I`m so used to a honda its not even funny....for most of you on the board you could take your 3.1,3.4,etc.. apart with your eyes closed..well thats me with a honda...but slowly I`ll be getting to know the 3.1 inside and out as I did in the 90`s when I had my Z-24 with a 3.1...I used to only run 4L in my Z so when I saw 3.8 for the cutlass I figured it was ok....I do apologize for starting thread to find out what everyones quantities used during an oil change
