chadz34
My ''LOW OIL'' light came on randomly! First thing I thought was where the fuck did it go? I am using syntehic oil, so I am guessing ti is seeping past engine parts and making my exhuast smell weird, I am gonna covert back to 10W-30. 1990lumina
So it was in fact low, just not a false sensor reading?? That sucks dude.
SigEpCutlass
hold on just a second now Chad. 1. What synthetic oil are you using? (Don't worry, I'll try my hardest to avoid pitching Amsoil ) 2. Do you see any visible leaks on the block of the engine on the front or rear? 3. What does the dipstick reading show? 4. Put paper under your car to see if you isolate any hard to see or non-visible oil leaks. A leak is a leak and it still might exist even if you switch to a higher weight oil. Let us know what you find.
19Cutlass94
Ive had that happen before. Except mine was with leaking gaskets and a leaking oil pump drive seal o-ring. Yeah I had to drive like 10 miles to the nearest place to get oil More than likely you have a leak somewhere. Its probably best to find it and fix it. because I know when my car was leaking, I was putting in a quart every week.

The dipstick is still in the safe zone because it is on the line before it needs to be added.

Crazy K
umm quaker state sucks... their oil has too much wax in it and causes sludge yeah the car warns you of low oil, but I would estimate that it is only halfway to the minimum amount from full that you can get. and yeah I have abused the low oil light before too. some cars did have issues with false low oil signals, btw, due to decompostion of the float. digitaloutsider
I've run Supertech synthetic religiously for the past 2 years, though the Cutlass has Royal Purple in it right now.
RJansen658
Ok here is some info, this first one is kinda dumb, since it comes from amsoil, of ourse it shows thier oil is the best: http://www.amsoil.com/performancetests/g1971/ And this is a free ebook called the motor oil bible. It tells you what tests there are, and basically anything else you would want to know about oil, it covers synthetics too: http://www.trustmymechanic.com/motor-oil-bible.pdf
GP1138
There are a few people on here (pitzel, I'm looking at you) who are absolute oil info gods. I expect one of them any minute.

SigEpCutlass
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ Jay quoted a very good website. I'd go there so you can understand what (if anything) Pitzel says if he sees this post. I use Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 in my car, and my dad uses it in all my family's cars. I'll refrain from saying anything further so I don't sound like an Amsoil rep again.
