marcusa
I am facing a dilemma. I'm sort of cash strapped at the moment but my Intrigue really needs new struts all around. It's bad, I feel like I'm driving a floating boat. My options are pretty much get Monroe ones from Sears orbuy some KYB's and have them installed. The Sears route is slightly cheaper and comes with a lifetime replacement warranty, whereas the KYB's don't. I guess my question is how much better are the KYB's and how long can I expect them to last?
SigEpCutlass
KYB's are sportier than the Sensitracs I have in my cutty. If there's a lifetime replacement warranty on the ones from Sears, I don't see why you wouldn't get them when they're cheaper. If the Monroe's go out sooner, you have the replacement warranty to fall back on. To me it's a no brainer...go with the Sensitracs from Sears. Psych0matt
but does the warranty include labor in this case? if so, i may look into that...
19Cutlass94
Those sensi-tracs are a good strut. Id go that route, but check on how much labor is before you made any decisions..
Crazy K
the rear struts on my 93 vert are sensitracks. some asshole removed the spring dampeners when they were installed... but the car does feel nice.
1990lumina
Rear struts I replaced on my Lumina with Monroe.....nice ride (stock, not too sporty - but it's a damn Lumina lol)....plus all the clunkness from the rear is gone. you may want to install them yourself if you have the correct tools, that would save on labor. Black90Euro
KYB's get 'em , ride firm but nice , had one go bad sent it back to Tire Race sent me a new one, I did have to pay for install of new one and a alignment as well

I know the KYB's are going to be sportier but didn't know if the difference would be significant enough to warrant running the risk one would go bad and I'd end up paying another $45 in labor to get them replaced. I just didn't want to pick up the Monroe's and have them turn out to be too soft either.
Guest TurboSedan
i like KYB's but if i were you i'd just go with the Sensatrac's considering the lifetime warantee. if you go with KYB struts DON'T order them from car-stuff.com!!! They handle well when I need the performance, and they keep my car smooth as silk on the expressway. They are a good choice.
tdaye
KYB GR2's and KYB Mounts on mine, LOVE the ride with my FAF spring
GOT2B GM
I have sensatracs on my Z34 and KYBs on my TGP. If you're planning on lowering it in the future, get the KYBs. Both ride nicely but sensatracs are too soft for stiff lowering springs.
marcusa
I'd lower if there weren't so many gigantic trucks out here on the roads in Texas. Maybe I should buy Monroe Rancho's instead and raise the thing!
AWeb80
KYB's FTW.
z34_nut
Yeah, I like the way my KYB's handle and ride.. get those.
marcusa
Allright, i was tight but KYB wins. WHere's the best place to get them for an Intrigue? Should I also get KYB top mounts (doubles the price)? The car has 155,000 miles, I don't know how often that needs to be replaced. If I had the cash I'd do it in a heart beat, but I'm a bit strapped (college tuition bill coming), if it's needed I'll only do front struts and save the rear for when I have more. DaveJ
I usually lurk here more than I post, but decided to reply, because I am in the process of buying/replacing my struts on my 1997 SL. I checked out the usual places, tirerack.com and shox.com. In the end ,I found ajusa.com usually sells KYB cheaper and they have free shipping on orders over $115. Orders under $115 pay $10.00 flat shipping. I priced just the front cartridges for my car and it was just under $72.00. I've bought all my K&N filters from them, and haven't had a bad transaction yet. You asked about replacing the strut bearing/mount. I would say, if you can afford it, do it while you have it tore down.
