Last time I heard about this the answer was: yes.

The Getrag 282 could bolt up to the motor with any significant problems / hassle...

(someone double check me on that though :shock: )

I think Shawn said that you'd have to build up the 282 to withstand the output of the 3.8 Series II S/C otherwise it wouldnt last very long. But i'd love to get my hands on a Getrag 282 if its possible without building it up. But i'm pretty sure you have to.

I'm not too smart when it comes to transmissions but wouldn't you be better off with a 284? They're harder to find but they're built stronger to take up to like 300hp right? something like that. I think they used them in 5-speed LQ1 applications.....i'm sure there's other people on here that can correct me

yeah the 284 is supposed to handle more power. But, the 282 will still hold close to 300HP. The reason to go with the 282, is that there are parts available to upgrade it to hold even more power. As far as I know, there isnt anything like that for the 284. But you are right, the 284 was used in 5spd LQ1s
