Tigershark Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 i just replaced the ower intake gasket in a 2002 Impala 3.4 now it idles way too high, At first it ran retarded... then all the sudden it just clicked and jumped to high idle and won't come down. pain n the arsse. Any input from the w-body whiz kids? I'm stumped.. Quote
Tigershark Posted July 6, 2006 Author Report Posted July 6, 2006 Oh yeah by the way... all vacuum lines are connected propperly, everything is plugged in.. Quote
Tigershark Posted July 6, 2006 Author Report Posted July 6, 2006 no I actually haven't.. I forgot how to do that.. I did it a ways back to my 92 Cut.. but I thought that was good for rough idles and such.. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 Id try that. When I did my gaskets same thing happened. high idle. The re-learn fixed it. If you forgot how to, its in the FAQ section. Quote
94CutlassSLCoupe Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 ok, this is how I do a relearn. remove the negative battery cable, open the door. Connect the battery cable and tighten when the interior lights are OUT (with door open) when battery is connected. Jump in car, start it up and immediately put it in D and hold against the brake. Continue for 5 min. Kill the engine instantly after doing this. On the next start the engine should run normallly. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 I think pulling the fuse is faster and easier..... Quote
Tigershark Posted July 6, 2006 Author Report Posted July 6, 2006 Ohh you mean like the Faq says to do it? Quote
Tigershark Posted July 7, 2006 Author Report Posted July 7, 2006  Crap... it wasn't the re-learn and it wasn't any vacuum hoses.. I don't know what happened to me but I left a small piece of the old gasket on the plenum and well yeah... it had a major vacuum leak... so crap it took me an extra 45 mins to fix i but at least it's running properly now... that was easy Quote
jdcutty Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 I figured vacuum leak. that was the first thing that came to my mind to. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 I forgot to tighten the TB on proplery when doing my LIM cause I was rushing to get it done. When I started the car it red-lined immediatly... kinda scary since it sat for a week without oil... Quote

Tigershark Posted July 11, 2006 Author Report Posted July 11, 2006 And yeah that's what happened to me as well, I got in a rush to finish it.. And I thought all the surfaces were clean but i guess you can't really be too carefull. Man i'm just glad the plenum didn't crack when i tightened it down. that would have been a big bummer. Quote
