gmrulz4u Posted May 1, 2003 Report Posted May 1, 2003 I just can't figure out how it would be possible to know that your ECM is faulty? Besides having to replace it with another one, and drive to see if there's any difference! I think I heard before that you could physically HIT it, and see if the engine "stumbles" or something... I'm at a loss...! :? ANYONE? :?: Quote
GPRACER Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 One of the easiest ways and the first thing to check would be the wiring connectors to the pcm, it's a common place for corrosion to occur. All or some of the pins may have green fuzzies and can lead to some really strange driveability problems and/or false codes setting. A lot of times you can just replace the bad terminals and clean up the pcm, can work wonders. You could be opening up a can of worms though if the pcm itself has a lot of corrosion it will need replacement also. Terminals are available at the dealer special crimping pliers will make the job much easier also. Just an opinion, but it's where I would start, I've seen it often enough. Quote

Yes, you can slap it around and see if it stumbles or RPM's change. That's a sure sign it's bad. But swapping it with another is what I do! Thank goodness for spare parts! Quote
