Nick1234
I have coolant leaking on the passenger side, front of the motor. It is dripping down from the graddle on the motor mount gaurd. so i have already replace the LIM gasket and the leaking has significantly went away, yet i am still leaving little puddles. In regards to coolant what gaskets are on the front of the motor. Just the water pump, or something further in. I can't even see where this shit is coming from. THe_DeTAiL3R
Are you getting any of the hood? When my waterpump was pissing out coolant (is was pretty bad) I was able to stand in front of the car and it would spray up at me.. Check the hoses to the WP and around the radiator. Nick1234
i just replaced the waterpump maybe 3 years ago. But once every like 3 days i leave a puddle, but its enough where ifind myself adding coolant often. its gay. [br]Posted on: July 02, 2006, 04:37:34 PM_________________________________________________Also today i was driving, never even got about normal temp, and it was pissing all over. STILL can't fucking see where it is comming from. Running down the block from somewhere. Then drove it home and it was fine. Let it sit it drive way getting up to prolly 220 and barely drips coolant. I need to know what gaskets are on the front of the motor that would be causing this. It pisses me off that i have two damn cars and they are both shitty. I don't have time to fix the turbo lumina cause i have to drive it all the time, PLUS i can't be sure that the crossover is the reason it idles like a fucking bitch and dies all the time. GOD DAMN IT. im done ranting. should have just bought a 02 nissan altima i wanted. Nick
RJansen658
Could possibly be a leaking head gasket, thermostat bypass tube, but more than likely is a freeze plug if its running down the front of the block.
jdcutty
I would start by changing the water pump just to see if that is it. It's cheap and easy so why not. If that doesn't fix it, at least you know it's not the wp.
mfewtrail
Remove the belt and the wp pulley, then feel & look around the pump to see if it's leaking from the weep hole on it or from the water pump gasket.
89GP_SE
put a bottle of bars leak in the rad and drive the car around for 10 minutes with the head blasting (yes I know its summer) then shut off the car and let it cool down then look for a puddle. You might have to redo this process twice. Worked on my leaky water pump (Cost me 3 bucks)
Nick1234
well im replacing the water pump as we speak. there was alittle evidence that there was coolant comming from the leak hole. also onthe bottomro of the housing. so i will see. Next though, if this doesn't work, im thinking that the timing belt cover should be taken off and ill replace that gasket. there is coolant that passes through there if im not mistaken. Has anyone ever replaced one of these. DO you really have to take off the starter and oil pan? Nick
Nick1234
It is the timing cover gasket. Now when removing the oil pan there is ONE FUCKING LITTLE BOLT that i can't get to. It is under the mount bracket for the motor. Right by the A/c Compressor. How do i get to this fucker. Nick
RJansen658
Unbolt the lower mount for the engine, and remove the torque struts, then jack up the engine. It is possible with a 1/4" swivel socket and an extension from underneath but its too difficult on the ground. I applaud you if you can get it out without lifting the motor. Depends how patient you are.
Nick1234
well i got all the bolts off of the oil and pan and it is just hanging there. i got the harmonic balancer off, and the timing cover off. Now i can't get the oil pan out. I tried jacking the motor up from the back on the tranny pan with a board, which helped but i still couldn't get it out. I don't want to trouch the craddle if i don't have to. So tomorrow im going to remove the motor bracket and try and squueze the pan out. If anyone has helpful hints that would be great. Im putting a new timing set on right away as well. In the gasket kit for the timing cover is something called a repair sleeve. Anyone know what that is about. All i can say is that this job is quite the bitch and getting all this stuff to line up is going to be the hardest part. Input would be great. Thanks Nick
RJansen658
I know what the repair sleeve is for. There are different ones sometimes in the kits. In a timing set it would be a sleeve that is made to slip over the harmonic balancer , it slips over the part that extends into the timing cover, the part that the front seal rides on. It is basically a new surface for the front seal. At least... thats what it was in my S-10 timing set. But you get the idea.
dbtk2
Why do you need to pull the oil pan off????? I never had to pull the oil pan off the STE to do the topend swap. I put some RTV on the end of it where it touches the timing cover when I put the new one on and it worked great. But even if you unbolted it you should be able to just pull the gasket off and put a new one on it and bolt it back up there. You shouldn't have to take it out. Nick1234
what tool are people using to get the crank gear off the shaft. the 3 arm puller isnt working at all. no autoparts store has anything else.
Nick1234
nevermind. i got it off. So update. I couldn't get the oil pan out no matter what i tried so i just put the gasket in and place her up. One of the bolts for the subframe isn't threading in so now i have to go to the junk yard and get a new one of the those. Otherwise i have to put the timing chain set on, get a new lower motor mount, and start putting everything back together, and hope that the subframe issue is just the bolt and nothing else. I could feel it from the top and the problem seemed that it was not threading. The end was all messed up on the bolt. So pray that is it. Almost half way there.
