mischief3003 Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 So I just started driving my car yesterday and the ABS light turned on when i was driving home. What problems could this mean? Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted July 2, 2006 Report Posted July 2, 2006 It could be a number of problems. First thing I'd check would be that the BOLT from the pos. battery terminal to the aux fuse box is tight. They tend to get loose on these cars and cause funky problems. If that's not the issue, might be ABS sensor in a wheel bearing or something. Quote
mischief3003 Posted July 3, 2006 Author Report Posted July 3, 2006 I do hear a squealing from a front wheel when I drive. But would that cause the ABS light to be on? Quote
peeeot Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 The squealing itself wouldn't turn the light on, though it may be possible for the cause of the squealing to be related to the cause of the ABS light. In my limited experience, ABS systems are not easily serviced by home mechanics. They're hard to diagnose without the proper equipment to communicate with the ABS control module. Quote
fastbird232 Posted July 15, 2006 Report Posted July 15, 2006 Probably end up that getting the light to turn off will cost more than the car is worth. Do what I did: remove the ABS dash light. Quote
Crazy K Posted July 15, 2006 Report Posted July 15, 2006 I would inspecty the squeling brake. I've see metal on metal contact generate enough metallic debris to interfere with the abs sensors. thats a start at least. Quote
White93z34 Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 i've had the connections on the ABS relay get corroded before and cause the ABS light to come on. Quote
slick Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Sounds like a loose connection or a dirty connection if it comes on mid drive. But, if it is a faulty sensor, I believe you have to replace the whole hub assembly. Quote

But, if it is a faulty sensor, I believe you have to replace the whole hub assembly. the front sensor is mounted upon the inside of the strut and retained by the bolts that hold the wheelbearing in place. the ring for the sensor is mounted on the cv shaft end. the rear is built into the wheelbearing and must be replaced as a unit. Well, I was partly right atleast. Quote
