how hard is it to do inner and outer tie rod ends yourself? do you need any special tools to do it? thanks.

yes you need special tools for the inner tierods, and maybe a ball joint fork would help with the outers... or even a tierod seperator!

You can rent these tools at autozone!

meanwhile, long time no see!

i just did this in the tail end of winter. its not too bad, a sawzall isan't always bad to have if a jerk nut is particularly stuborn.

you will have to remove the metal bands over the boots on the steering rack to get the boot off, i used a long screwdriver to pry them apart and remove them, instead of getting new ones, i used long zip ties in place of them since there simply wasen't enough room to do anything but.

as for special tools, i rented a inner tie rod tool from a pep-boys for the job, made inner replacement prety easy.

and you absoutely MUST get the car aligned directly afterwards.

and questions feel free to ask.
