VHT header paint

Anyone have any experience, or opinions? It's supposed to be good to 2000 F, but it comes in a spray can so I'm wondering how good it is.

Thinking of trying it on the turbo crossover and downpipe...

I sprayed my manifolds with Duplicolor Ulta High temp.. supposed to be good intermittently up to 1500* I believe. We'll see how that holds up. My plan for the crossover and downpipe is to wrap them in header wrap then spray them with an aerosol that does the same thing.. not really paint I think, it's just a coating, forget the name. I think you should be good with the VHT stuff, though I don't really know how hot it gets right after the turbo...

Don't use VHT. I did some small block chevy manifolds with VHT black manifold paint. I had them bead blasted before hand and painted them the same day I got them back. I used 6 coats. They were rusty in areas after about 3 months. The engine was driven maybe 10 miles over those 3 months. Its been about 6 months since they were painted now, and I just checked them (they are on a mobile home that doesnt move much). After six months they are 2/3 covered in rust =/

Does SEM make a good high heat paint?

I've used VHT in the past on a small block, it really didn't last that long.... but thats my experience. Theres at least one person who has had good luck with them.

Hmmm...

Well, if VHT isn't good, maybe heat wrapping the parts, then using VHT on top of that would work...my pipes aren't coated with anything now, so I want to at least wrap them.

Ever think about Jet Hot coatings? Cost a bit but should give you the finish you want and last a long time.

Spray paint never lasts...been there,tried that,never lasts.

There IS another alternative...theres a silvery manifold dressing polish you can use to brush on and rub to a high luster with a cloth.I used that on rusty looking exhaust manifolds and they looked GREAT when done. Its not permanent, youd have to reapply the dressing every few months, but its easy to do and takes a few minutes.

I have some pics of shorty headers(L98 Corvette manifolds) that I rubbed that stuff on...let me know If you want to see how they came out,so I can email them or something...not sure how to post...The stuff is called Calyx manifold dressing, and is popular for older cars with rusty manifolds you want to shine up before a show or something.
