Yeah my 97 GP,has the 3100 engine, has the famous GM intake manifold leak...lucky the coolant is leaking outside the engine, not into it.

Is this engine the same as the earlier 3.1 when you have to loosen the rocker arms, remove the push rods to take the lower gasket out? I havent torn it down yet,but a quick glance,it looks like Ill have to remove the rocker arms and push rods to remove the LIM gasket.

Just wanted to verify...also does this 3100 have roller rockers? Are the pushrods the same or different lengths? Thanks!

Yes, You have to remove the rockers to remove the pushrods to remove/put on the new lower gasket. Becareful you do not get them mixed up, as the intake is longer than the exhaust. and no, the 3100 does not have roller rockers. There just stamped steel.

But I know in the run, they got shrt run manifolds in 95 I want to say, and I thought they had roller rockers as well at that time..

Taking the oil fill cap off,it looks like a roller rocker arm,not stamped. Not 100% positive since cant see the entire rocker but does look like it... thanks for all the replies too!

They are definetly roller... and luckily non adjustable...

when you put it back together there is NO adjustment to get wrong, just make sure they seat correctly (they are grooved at the bottom), and then torque them down to factory spec.

Its really easy... as suggested above don't mix up the push rods.

Yeah,Love that set up...did a friends car before and didnt have to adjust the lash or anything, just torque to spec and ran like a champ. Also have an older 93 GP 3.1 im putting back together now for a relative and its helped me see alot what the 3100 is gonna be like on tear downs.

All the 3100's got hydraulic lifters which means you dont need to adjust the valve lash. If you had solid lifters or roller lifters, you would have to.

I just ordered a rocker arm & a couple of pushrods for a '97 3.1 today at work for a customer. They are in fact roller rockers. They list at $25 each. The pushrods are 2 different lengths so if you take them out don't mix them up. The intakes are all 1 length & the exhaust are another length.......can't remember which is the longer and which is the shorter...
