in park, warm, running, and on level ground. Make sure the car has warmed up

Yup, When I used to work at the tranny shop last summer, we would always shift them between drive and reverse a few times and let the car roll a few inches each direction. Always got a proper reading this way.

I always go through all the gears, sometimes i'll load the converter too just for the hell of it, then check the fluid in park, with engine running

Matt it's in the owners manual for '94. Do you have the manual? If not, I can scan that page tomorrow at work. Just let me know.

that'd be cool, but dont worry too much about it. i just wasnt sure if there was more to it or not. i didnt think so, but for some reason it was bugging me

I'll do it tomorrow at work. I can't remember the exact order you should go in with the gears and for how long etc. However, I do remember that the car must be at normal operating temp when you check it/add if necessary.
