chadz34 Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Well, I haven't posted here in a while, I have been really busy. Anyways, here's what's new. I notice when the car is cold, the idle will slightly move up and down like within 200 rpm. I have beem told it's a vacuum leak, and is not an intake leak. And, I am still having my starting problem the odd time. I think maybe the battery may not have enough to crank the engine to start. It will crank, but maybe it's not strong enough to fire up the motor. Funny thing is....the green light on the battery is lit. It's the original Delco Freedom battery from 96'. The starting problem only happens every so often, it will just crank for like 10 seconds and try to start and eventually will....It's got me stumped, any help would be great. Thanks! Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 If it is a vaccum leak, spray intake cleaner around all the lines. When the idle drops down ( believe me youll know ) then you found the leak. And yeah get a new battery. Those lights stay green forever. Quote
THe_DeTAiL3R Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Bring the batt to Canadian Tire .. they'll test it for free. try cleaning up the wires/terminals. Quote
chadz34 Posted June 20, 2006 Author Report Posted June 20, 2006 Ok, I'll try the cleaner trick....but under the hood, where are ALL the vaccum lines? And, I will get a new battery, funny thing is, when I had my intake off cleaning it, when I put it back on it wouldn't start, it cranked but it felt like the battery just didn't have enough to start the engine with it's cranking. And, one week ago, I tried to start my car and the starter kicked on for one crank, the lights went out, and it cranked again, and the the lights went out again, so I think maybe my battery acts up the odd time and won't start the car. Also, my headlights dim when I use my windows. Quote
PCGUY112887 Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Unless your really stressed on $, get a new battery regardless. And for all of the vac lines just look around the upper intake for any hoses comming off it and start sprayin all around the connection, where the hose leads, etc. Quote
1990lumina Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 I'll fouth or fifth a new battery....even if it can crank the engine over the computer needs like 10volts minimum to actually fire the engine and run it stabily....also a weak battery will be harder on your alternator since it will always be charging it. I'll second that "eye" always stays green lol... My Lumina had the original battery in it up until 3 years ago, my grandma told me the car was totally dead, and I asked how's the battery?? She said "oh it's the original one" lol...."eye" was still green on that one too Quote
chadz34 Posted June 21, 2006 Author Report Posted June 21, 2006 Thanks, I got a battery I got to pick up Thursday! We'll see how that does, and what do I spray on the vacuum hoses/lines? Quote
