Psych0matt
So, if my egr tube was messed up (ie, not sealed) would/could it make the car lack power and run kinda crappy?
slick
It could. A truely faulty EGR valve will cause bad gas mileage and a rough run. But, in most people's cases, they just need to clean out the carbon that go's from the intake to the EGR valve itself.
Psych0matt
well, I had to make an adaptor for mine (new block, old intake) and I think it got hot and isn't sealed anymore
slick
I would just talk to Ben about making you a chip so you can completely forget about the EGR. Unless you need it. What got too hot and isn't sealing anymore?
Psych0matt
i had to use jb weld when i put the two halves together because I was running out of time. i don't think i got it good enough
Dirty Rockstar
On the EGR front: My experience in recent months has been lower gas mileage, even with AC off in the warmer months.. Also, a slight smell of gas, like the thing is runnin rich.. And a slight lack of power.. I can hear a slight exhaust leak coming from up near the front I need to look at.. But the biggest flag is the car will throw an SES light at me, for no more than 15 mins.. Then it goes out.. I had a friend hook up a scanner to my port and oit was found to simply be a faulty EGR Soelnoid.. Cleared the code(s) and the SES is gone, but the rich smell is still there.. Matt, do you get an SES light?
Brian P
I've been running with the EGR out for about 2 weeks now (awaiting a changeover) for the record, my fuel economy hasn't changed. If anything it might have gone up a slight bit.

Brian P
the slight increase is probably a coincidence. But by no means have I seen a decrease.
Psych0matt
about the ses light, I really don't know. I think either my bulb is burnt out or i missed a wire when putting in the UB3. I just realized that a week or so ago, it doesnt light up with the start up sequence. and of course, autozone cant scan a 94 (i even double checked while i was there today)
skiiirt
When my speed exceeds 50mph and then drops below 50mph my SES light will be thrown. Its is a 32 Every time. If I am driving 50+ and stay above 50, no SES. I know exactly when the SES light will come on. When the light is on my car is running 60% and will not run normally untill the car is shut off for 2 minutes or more (unless the engine is really warm). Because of this I stay away from freeways and only use highways when necessary. I can burn a 1/4 tank of gas driving 20 miles if the SES light is on. Psych0matt
My egr tube was definitely in two pieces. I had to make one myself (new block, old intake) and i jb welded it, and it shoulda held up fine, but it looks like the guy that dropped the engine in for some reason took it apart, put a piece of pipe around it, and then siliconed it. I put some silicone adheisive junk on it for now, since that's all i have, and if i warm up the engine to drive to the store it will defeat the purpose
