Black Pheonix Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I really don't know a lot about transmissons but as i posted ealier mine won't shift above 3/4 throttle, the rpms will raise above redline and still no shift. I was wondering if i overfilled the tranny fluid say a quart or two if it would give the governer enough pressure to shift. Or should i loosen the tv cable? Any Suggestions? Thanks, Quote
Redfox340 Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 In what gear(s)? I've got a trouble shooter list if you can identify when the problem occurs. - RedFox340 Quote
Robby1870 Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Over filling it shouldnt make it do that. These trannies will work fine if overfilled. Your shifting is based on engine vacuum, so the fluid being overfull is not going to make a huge difference Robby Quote

Thanks, Yes loosen the cable up. I experienced that on one of my cars before. The TV cable is probably a little too tight. Quote
Black Pheonix Posted April 27, 2003 Author Report Posted April 27, 2003 I will have to try loosening it up if i can then, I think i found the cable yesterday, it is connected at the throttle and goes back behind the engine, do you adjust it at the throttle or behind the engine, it almost looks like I'd have to pull the engine foward to get at it after the throttel (which the cable ends at and has nothing extra) so i'm not sure how and where to adjust it at. Just to clarify, I have the tranny fluid at the correct level, i was wondering ealier if overfilling it would help, and problem occurs for sure between 1-2, and 2-3, thanks, Quote
JS91Z34 Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 On these GM's i'm not sure how you adjust them. You can also try checking your modulator valve in front of the trans to see if its bad. Quote
Robby1870 Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 yeah that modulator is what controls shifting and shift firmness. If the vacuum line running to the modulator is broken or where it goes into the modulator is leaking, you will experience shifting problems. Robby Quote
Black Pheonix Posted April 28, 2003 Author Report Posted April 28, 2003 I thought it only controlled shift firmness. I guess once i find it i'll check it out, but i have found no vacuum leaks as of now. Quote
