Spcboyd1 Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I need to replace mine because it leaks does anyone know the price on one from the dealer and about how much it will cost from the junkyard and will that be okay Thanks for any help you can give me Quote
Redfox340 Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 If it's just a fuel rail and not the injectors, I say you should (in theory) be able to locate a 3.1L or DOHC fuel rail from the same year(s) with minimal price / effort. I say the local yard will charge you no more than $40 if it's just the rail. Best of luck! - RedFox340 Quote
Slade901 Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I want to know more about the leaks you are talking about the Fuel Rail. Does it have a crack on the fuel rail itself? If so, you need a replacement. Does it leak near the Fuel Pressure Regulator and maybe the o-rings just need to be replaced? Call around your local junkyard and ask them if they have a same engine for your car and get a quote for the lower price and get the person's name because when you are actually there and ready to pay the part you just pulled then other person might charge you with a higher price and then you tell them that so and so give me a lower price quote for this item. patgizz Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 if its a 2.8 or 3.1 i've got one here for you CHEAP but i'm interested too where its leaking. could just be an injector o-ring. Quote
Spcboyd1 Posted April 27, 2003 Author Report Posted April 27, 2003 Its not the injector o rings or the o ring on the ends of the fuel rail for the line and fuel pressure regulator i changed all of those o rings and their is still a slight leak coming from the fuel rail so i took the car to a mechanic and he said that it was the fuel rail and since i changed all the gaskets i have to guess that it is the rail itself Quote
Slade901 Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 If I was you, I would definitely put a fuel leak detector just like an a/c leak detector but this one is designed for fuels to find leak and using a black light/uv light and see if I can find out where the leak is exactly coming from. If you really just want to go replace the fuel rail then patgizz might have one for you or your local junkyard might have one for you. Quote
Spcboyd1 Posted April 28, 2003 Author Report Posted April 28, 2003 I have another question to go with the fuel rail issue I replaced the intake manifold gasket about a month ago and since then the leaking issue has been here. I have changed the injector o-rings twice thinking some how i messed them up. But the issue is fuel doesnt leak right away the last time i changed the o-rings i let the car run for like thirty minutes and nothing happened. Then a few days later i start noticing a gas smell and i open the hood and then i am back to not driving the car. So in conclusion i dont know whats up with my car its not leaking any fuel from the drivers side so i dont think that it is the regulator unless its sending too much fuel to the rail. But i dont think that it is the rail either cause it still had pressure last time i changed the o-rings but i dont think its the o-rings cause i have replaced those twice so if anyone has an idea to keep me sane i would appreciate it. Slade901 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 First, I would get a gas/fuel leak detector and you could easily pinpoint where the leak is coming from. My mother's car has gas/fuel smell when it is warmed up. There was also a little bit of engine problem. It's been a year since my mom's mechanic replaced the spark plugs. I decided to replace the spark plugs and found out that the no. 1 spark plug was loose and was not torqued properly and all the spark plugs were not gapped to the correct specs. I put a new spark plugs with correct gaps and used a rathet type torque wrench to tighten the sparks plugs and since then I did not notice any of the gas/fuel smell anymore. Note: If you decide to put a new spark plugs, make sure you check the gap of the spark plugs and adjust it accordingly because I came across spark plugs that were not gapped to the right specs even though manufacturer states that it is already gapped for the right engine type. Most spark plugs sold in the auto store are not gapped and you have to gap it yourself to the right specs for your engine. Get a rathet type torque wrench. It is so easy to use than the torque wrench that moves its pointer. The rathet type torque wrench will click once the specified torque is reached. The manual for my car 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme states that I have to torque the spark plugs at 20 ft-lbs but there is a manufacturer bulletin update which says to torque the spark plugs to 11 ft-lbs for the 2.8L and 3.1L V6 engines. GPRACER Posted May 2, 2003 Report Posted May 2, 2003 If I'm not mistaken you can buy a new AC Delco fuel rail fairly cheaply, I remember replacing one on a 3800 for the very same reason. Quote
