rjtiminskygtp
So, I was out looking at cars yesterday, and I looked at a Grand Prix GTP, a 1999, and on the gas door and in the manual it said to use premium gas ONLY, but when I talked to the Garage, they said it doesn't need prmium, and it'll run fine and be powerful on regular gas. Does anyone use regular gas with their supercharged 3.8's? If so, how does it run?
terryk2003
uhh...i would deffinatly be running premium in that...i can't believe someone told u it wasnt needed...i mean, it'll run on regular, but i'm sure you'd be getting KR which deffinatly isnt good for the engine and could cause premature failure... digitaloutsider
Put premium in it, and never go to that garage again.
99RegalGS
I forget what years, but late L67's and L32's can run on regular (I'm thinking like 03+, but don't take my word on it). The PCM's in those are programmed to detect what octane fuel you're using and adjust as nessary. It's still always recommended that you use premium though. stevegasm
Put premium in it, and never go to that garage again. x2 Looking at the owners manual, and the fuel door specifically saying "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only", i'd stick to premium. I know this was in the promotional stuff for the 2004+ L32's, but I don't know about the L67's.

Yeah the L32's can use regular but it would bring the power rating down from 260hp to 240hp and I'm not sure about any L67 being able to use regular. The only reason the L32 gets away with it is because of the efficiency of th GEN V supercharger.97-03 GTP and GS premium only 04-05 GTP's and 06 GT regular can be used but you won't make the cars true power.04-05 Monte SS and Impala SS go by the same rules as the 97-03 GTP and GS because although they have some L32 components in the engine they still have GEN III superchargers. 99RegalGS
Yeah, I forgot to mention that with regular you'll lose power. And it probably was L32 only to have the option to run regular. I remember hearing about that awile ago and I guess I kinda applied it to the L67 as well.
rjtiminskygtp
Well on the page that talked about gas it said that Premium is required, but in a pinch regular would cut it...and the funny thing is the mechanic told me that and he owned a 2000 GTP, and when I asked the salesman at the local GM dealer here he said it doesn't need premium, and that that was a selling point for GM was that they didn't have cars that required premium...it's a big ol' messed up situation. I think, since I am a high school student, I might just have to settle for a 2000 or 2001 Grand Prix GT...and no longer have the P but what can you do I suppose...it's kind of disheartening. Or, I could just buy a GTP, suck it up and buy Premium since I have one year of school left, then when I get to work it'll be less of a problem. I don't know lol...oh the problems of life. 97loudcut
what is with some of you people.. gas is like 3 trillion dollars a gallon allready, I don't think 10 extra cents will make you or break you

digitaloutsider
No, he's right. The L67 is 240HP and the L32 is 260.

97loudcut
so it costs $3 more to fill the tank. big deal. i wouldn't let that be a deal breaker. for some people that is, I mean that 3 dollars is like 2 snickers or a energy drink or like 4 cigarettes. if you have a 'supercharged' car (and I know it can be hard) break down and spend the extra $3 to get the maximum performance out of your vehicle. $3 / $.
ToroToro
I wasn't saying the extra 20 cents was a big deal...but hey...I can actually buy a whole pack of smokes for around three bucks here. They must tax a shitload where you live. This shouldn't even need to be discussed. Bottom line is: dont buy a car if you cant afford to put gas in it and maintain it. Exactly why there isn't a ferrari in my driveway. Well, kinda.
