lothos Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 Hi guys I've got my car up and running now. I've been running the engine every couple hours, and the last time I did so, I noticed a weird noise I haven't heard before. It's not the normal ticking of a hot engine. It seems to be coming from the engine on my 3.1, down by where the oil dipstick is in the front. It's louder than a ticking, and almost has a musical quality to it. It sounds like a metalic ding kind of noise. I'm going to see if my digital camera's video mode records sound, and if it does I'm going to try to get a sample of the noise. Any idea what it could be? lothos Posted June 7, 2006 Author Report Posted June 7, 2006 Sorry for posting in the wrong section, I didn't realize. Working on the audio clip, seeing if I can do something like that. Anyone have any ideas?[br]Posted on: June 07, 2006, 07:03:39 PM_________________________________________________OK. I've got the video up. It's in quicktime format. Permission is hereby given to use this clip freely for whatever purpose, as long as the clip is stored on your own servers. http://www.rootfest.net/engine.mov It wasn't as loud this time as it has been, I only ran the car for a few minutes this time, but that's the noise it's making. You'll probably have to turn your speakers up to hear it. Is this a sign of something wrong, or am I just being paranoid? Quote
89GP_SE Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 .. OMG time to replace that motor!!!! Joking Your being paranoid, nothing wrong with it, mines been pinging for a while now. Now if you were to hear clunking, i would definately be getting that checked out. Quote
PCGUY112887 Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 That's right after you turn it off when it's warm right? Totally normal, on any car, on any machine. It's hot and it's cooling and things pop and moan when they expand/contract. Lots of times exhaust pieces do it as well. Quote
