Robby1870
So, first of all, I havent been here in a while, but Ive got a problem. I drove the car to ACE hardware today to get some things to wash/wax it. Car was fine. I washed and waxed it. About an hour ago, I go to start it up to go to the beer store. Car starts fine, but it sounds like it's low on power and when I go to roll the windows down and open the sunroof the the engine really bogs, like 2-3 hundred rpm (not normal). A few seconds later, it sputters and dies. So, I try starting it again, catches for a second then dies again and wont restart. So, I start looking at stuff. I take the cap off the schraeder valve on the fuel rail and push the valve.....no fuel (bad). Also, now the fuel pump doesnt make any noise when I turn the battery on. So, I start checking other fuses....all are good. Fuel pump fuse, fuel/ecm fuse, inj. fuses are all good. So then I look to the fuel pump relay. It clicks when I turn the battery on (like it should). So I try using the fuel pump tester anyway....nothing, fuel pump still doesnt make any sound. Now, Im 95% sure its the fuel pump. I'm posting to get y'alls opinion on the matter. I want to be 100% sure its the fuel pump before I go and tear into the pump. All info is welcome, especially if you can think of anything else I should check first. (Good thing is I only have about a 1/4 of tank in the gas tank). Thanks again.
LukeZ34
Yea, I'd say it's the Fuel pump too.
Turbo231
If you are that worried, you can hunt down the power connector to the pump and test it for power. Driver's side of the tank if I recall correctly. Yes to power, then its a dead pump, no, then you have an electrical problem. If your pump kicks the bucket, it's probably blown a lot of crap in your fuel system, so change your fuel filter too. I have never seen a fuel filter as bad as the one I pulled right after I changed my pump. Short DIY: http://members.aol.com/regal231/fuel.htm Good luck. Bossman429
FWIW when I used the pump test wire on my perfectly running TSTE I couldn't hear the pump running, I was too far away to hear it. I could however hear fuel running through the fuel rail. Of course a fuel pressure gauge is the sure fire way to tell.
Robby1870
So, we got the tank down and out today. It wasnt too bad, lots of rust, as expected. Got the new stuff bought (pump, screen and filter) and ready to go in. We had to stop today due to threat of rain and want to drink some beer. I decided since I had the tank out, why not paint it. So, I've got it sanded and primered, waiting for the primer to dry.
