Shifts too firm

For some reason when I put my car in gear it feels like I'm doing a tranny drop. When the car is warmed up it is fine, but when I start it for the first time for the day it is terrible.

I just did some work with the vacuum lines and it was shifting far too hard under normal driving conditions so I changed them and now it shifts fine between gears in drive.

Is there any way to test the vacuum modulator, or is it hit or miss. Also where does the vacuum from the modulator go on a 96 intake?

Disconnect the vacuum line from the modulator. Spin it so the nipple is facing down. If tranny fluid runs out it's shot. Or take it out and tip it like your trying to dump something out of the nipple to see if fluid comes out.
