1990lumina
got the fluid changed, filter changed, and whatever they could see I got them to check over.... There was little to no filings in the pan (wierd??) They said the transmission temperature was normal (I didn't ask what temperature exactly though...) Anyway what a difference a fluid change makes!! Holy crap...the car shifts so smooth now. There is still a bit of a clunk sometimes...the shop said on the test drive it did that a few times, but it's not in the transmission....they said it is probably some play in the drive axles or something like that.... The car will downshift now more readily (don't have to floor it to make it go), and it shifts right away at redline (doesn't hold there forever like it used to) Here's the receipt for S&G... http://www.solidstorage.net//files/14/lumina%20tranny%20receipt.jpg
pitzel
"X-Tend Additive"? wtf? Seriously though, the 4T60/440-T4 is pretty bulletproof. Was that the factory fluid? Are you sure you had it filled to the correct level before you took it in?
peeeot
How did it shift before you took it in?

I think the fluid was changed once before, but I don't have the paperwork (my grandma had the car serviced at Band City/Murray's GM for most of it's life)....and yes the fluid was the correct level; infact it may have been a touch over full. slick
Yeah, that clunk could be several different things that are no-where near related to the transmission at all.

ns87
Glad to hear it worked out. Thats still not too too terrible of a price. From my experiece the transmission will feel awesome for about 400 miles then go back to normal
LumiDriver
Glad to hear that it's working well. I heard a rumor that after a certain amount of time without having the transmission fluid changed, the tranny could get used to the old filings and thin fluid, and that the transmission would start acting like it had no fluid because it can't compensate for teh newer thicker fluid. Is that true? Or was yours just needing done, and actually was changed in teh recommended tiem?
