bsymes34 Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Hey there I have an 89 pontiac bonneville with a 3.8 engine. What I want to to is replace the harmonic balancer with a 3.1 pontiac h.b. It is out of a 96 grand am and everything looks the same other than not having the rubber slip factor on the 3.1. Is this feasable or should I just get the 3.8 balancer. All help appreciated Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Id stick with the 3.8 balancer. The 3.1 was not designed for the 3.8, so it doesnt dampen the virbrations of it. Harmonic balancer dampens the virbrations from the crank shaft, one you change that it no longer dampens/ or not as well. When you have all the vibrations from the crank shaft going to the rods, bearings, your just shortening the life. Quote
