chevy1
what is real horsepower of the 2.8 V6 1989 Olds Cutlass engine??? and how add some extra HP without engine rebuilt? some cheap tricks?
Supreme Cutlass
130 HP Bottom line, the 2.8 isn't a strong motor. Short of a Turbo and intake swap, there's not much "cheap" that will give you a big power increase. Sure, there's chips and UD pulleys and stuff, but nothing cheap is going to give you a real big boost in power. How much power are you looking for? Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go? THe_DeTAiL3R
It's a very stong motor... on my old car I beat the piss out of it and never had any problems. Really the best thing is just leave it stock (no cold air intakes or anything) cause you woun't gain much performance and just lose fuel economy. If you want more power get another car/engine. fastbird232
The 2.8 is for reliability. If you want performance, get a 3.4 or one of those goddamned L67s, that's what they were made for. But if you want an engine that's slow as hell but will outlast any other 60* engine, stick with the 2.8. I still fondly remember my '89 SE. The thing had been in a farmer's field for over a year, but I started it right up and drove it home. After a can of Seafoam and a tune up, it would burn the hides off the tires (I still can't figure that one out...).
chevy1
OK thank you:) my previous cars have a carburated V8 engines and add some extra HP there was no problem my cutlass is my daily driving car and I want to have 20-30HP more but you wrote that is rather impossible
fastbird232
In all practicality, yeah, it's impossible. But if you have a lot of money and want to get crazy, anything can be turbocharged, I guess.
