Psych0matt Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 so I pull the timing belt off this afternoon to retime it (note that I'm completely exhausted, but need to get this done). I tear down to it rather quickly, and pull off the actuator and tensioner pulley. First off, I get out the little screwdriver and back the actuator back down to reuse it (*is it supposed to have some fluid come out when you back it down?) so I line all the cams back up and everything, and i literally spend about a half hour trying to get the bolt for the tensioner pulley back in straight. it goes in just fine, but keeps wanting to get tight about 2/3 of the way in. it wasnt crossthreaded when i took it out, and i didnt crossthread it any of these times because i stopped everytime it got too tight. So, then it started raining and I gave up for the night. any suggestions? *anyone know the answer to this? Quote
GP1138 Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Is there any way to use a smaller (read: shorter) bolt? Was the bolt all the way in when you took it off? If you replaced the tensioner pulley, is it a different size than the old one? (Stupid question, I guess, but I gotta ask, if it came off a different engine or was meant for a newer engine, it's remotely possible.) Quote
Psych0matt Posted June 2, 2006 Author Report Posted June 2, 2006 all the same stuff. anti seized it yesterday because there were some tough spots, but it went in just fine. edit: got the stupid pulley in, but i think the new actuator i have is shot (im going back to the dealership tomorrow). i got it timed, its just waiting for the actuator and then putting the rest back together. i might call in to work tomorrow... Psych0matt Posted June 3, 2006 Author Report Posted June 3, 2006 like the title now says, i retimed it, and its a lot better, but something is still a hair off. How do I go from 2 for 2 down to 2 for 4? Quote
Psych0matt Posted June 7, 2006 Author Report Posted June 7, 2006 ok, it's really close, if not spot on. I think i need to take the car to autozone and see if it's throwing any codes, because I think my SES light is either burned out or not wired into the UB3 correctly. Either way, its a lot better, I just don't know if it's back to normal or not until I drive it a few days Quote
