Monkton
Okay, so over the past week and a half I suppose whenever I would start my car after being away from it for a long time it would start wicked rough, to the point where I thought it was just going to stall, but it never did. So I would let it warm up and about 10 minutes later drive it. And it's not like this was winter, it's pretty hot around here now. Well Saturday night I started it up from my friends house and I swore I had blown another coilpack, because it's done this twice before and it felt exactly the same. I took it for a lap around his neighborhood and it went away, okay cool. Halfway home I get on the gas about maybe 1/2 the way down and I hear a loud knock in the engine and the car shakes real quick, and goes back to normal. Pull it over at like 11:30 and pop the hood. It's a little hot but it was a hot night and other than that everything looked good. Pulled back onto the road with my friend behind me (just to make sure I made it home alright.) Got home without incident. My Dad came over the next morning and I had been complaining to him about my cars rough starting for a while and I wanted to show him what it was like. I start the car, rough again, but this time it DOES stall out and dies. I get pissed, crank it over again and it starts, rough, but it starts. Dad and I both agree it's another coilpack so I take my Mom's Intrepid to Autozone and get two new ones. And it's a miracle I made it there, that Intrepid is shit. Vibrates the hell out of you at stop lights and all around just sucks, luckily it's not my problem haha. So I drop $93 on new ignition packs and we put them in when I get back. Still, rough start and just sickening noise from the exhaust . Later that day I limped it to my Dad's house and I could barely touch the gas on it, like any more than 1/4 down that weird knocking and shaking would come back. Luckily I could just coast down the hills to maintain speed. We take a look at the plugs and and they all work, but they were all weak when we tested them on the first and last... ignition head I guess? We hooked the spark plugs up to this adapter my Dad had and cranked the engine to see how much of a spark we got and the first and last heads were weak with all spark plugs. We look at the ignition control module and it's slightly cracked. My Dad (who was a mechanic for most of his life, not anymore because he hates working on cars lol) Seems to think that is the problem. That or something to do with fuel injection, but doubts it because you can smell gas when it's running. So I got some new Bosch Platinum plugs and ordered a new ignition module today, hopefully that fixes it. Should be done tomorrow night. You guys ever had any troubles with this in the quad 4's? Or know of something else that could be the problem if this doesn't fix it? Sorry for some of the crappy terms and if I butchered some of the names of stuff, I'm most certainly not the smartest when it comes to things like these haha. cutlassdude96
some times those coil housing can go bad and make the car run ruff
SigEpCutlass
OKAY RED FLAG!!! You are using Bosch plugs. Just about everyone on this forum that has used them has said their car doesn't like them. They usually last a lot shorter than they should too! digitaloutsider
Do not use Bosch plugs with GM's waste-spark ignition. Ever. Â Please, go buy AC Delco plugs.
White93z34
does a quad 4 use a waste spark ignition?
digitaloutsider
Oh yeah. I keep forgetting that car isn't 3.1 equipped. Â In that case, I have no idea..
94CutlassSLCoupe
Quad4 IS waste spark...sounds like you are having the same trouble we're having with the new one we bought, I've pretty much figured out we have a fuel delivery problem
jdcutty
It could be running rich also, which would foul out the plugs, and give you that gas smell.
Monkton
I got some AC Delco's for it... put in the new ignition control module. Still running rough as hell though.
