TheEddie
Car:1999 Monte LS 3100 Alright, so earlier today I tried remote starting my car and I always listen for it...nothing. I go outside and hit the button again...car clicks(more like a ping) and does nothing. I get in the car and it started right up. About 3-4 starts later im in the Jewel parking lot and I try to start it again, click...nothing. Try it again, click. What do you guys think it is? I've been reading up on started problems all over this place and I figure it is the starter. I tried beating the piss out of it while someone turned the key but no luck. The battery is good-I even jumped it while hitting the starter and trying to start and nothing. Just the one click. If it is the starter what do you guys recommend, I've read about the misc. starters that can be used including the gear reduction starters. Educate me on the topic please. LumiDriver
My thoughts would be the ignition module...or just teh way GM starters are. Did that too me as well. Check your connections too. I had a loose battery ground when my van did the same thing.
TheEddie
I had the ICM and Coil Packs checked probably 100 miles ago, everything was a-ok. I wish it'd start just once so I could get it home, ha.
joey b
turn the key to the on position and leave it until the dummy lights turn off and see if the security light is illuminated. Sometimes when I go to start my car I have to hold it in the start position for sometimes 5 seconds before the starter will engage. Don't know why. 94CutlassXtreme
My car does this all the time. Check the power distribuiton module under the hood where the alternate positive post is. There should be a little red wire bolted to the side of it. Wiggle it and then try and start the car. If it works, the car should fire right up and then tighten it down asap. I think its the power for the starter relay or something.
Psych0matt
my remote start almost never works (unless I accidentally hit it while working on it or something) but always starts up with the key. no idea why. my aux post was loose for a few days, but i cleaned up the connections real good and tightened it yesterday. ill try my remote start on my way out to work today. newer 3x00 starters work just fine you just sak for a starter for say a 2001 malibu with a 3100 or a 2001 impalla with a 3400 That's what I did. works fine
DiscoStudd
Try seeing if it starts in Neutral. It could be your park/neutral safety switch that's out of whack...

TheEddie
I tried all of that^^ before I even posted...read up like mad looking for answers..no luck on anything so I skipped a few steps, towed the beast home with my moms expedition and got myself a new starter-lifetime warranty. Put it on in less than an hour with no experience at all. She runs like a champ. I own. Thanks for the help guys, it's always appreciated. Edit:Finished the job 7 hours before I had work.
