Ok guys I need some help here! I need to swap out tranny's is there any how-to's written about this? I tried to google it but I think I must not be using the right criteria! any help is appreciated!

are you swapping a 3 speed out? what's going in?

1992 Grand Prix Le 3.1 umm with th125c thats a 3spd im sure i just have to pull the whole engine and tranny setup

What are you putting in? another 3 speed? a 4t60? ....or a 4t60-e?

 

I'd just invest in a service manual, preferably a used dealership manual.

ya well what do u guys recomend going back in with? Supreme Cutlass-I'll get a service manual I just saw one on ebay thanks! But ya is the 4spd better than the 3 in terms of fuel mileage because I dont think I'm gonna get too performance mods yet and fuel is pricey these days!

The cool thing about the four speed is overdrive, so the engine can operate at a lower RPM (better milage). Switching to a 4T60 wouldn't be as difficult as say a 4t65-E as the the 4t65-E is electronically controlled (as is any 4 speed with an "-e" after it), although it is much more easier to find and probably more reliable. Switching to a 4t65-E would require it's associated wiring and PCM.

Regardless, I would reccomend a 4 speed (or a manual 5 speed if you're really into it) over your three speed.

ok i found this 1994 grand am that is in PRISTINE condition...it has a 3100 sfi in it..but it blew somehow..this girl wants to get rid of it for $350!!!...could u swap down to a mfi?...could i just swap the intakes on the engines to avoid changing pcm to ecm or what? HELP GUYS I WANT THIS BADLY n i need a car to get back n forth work right now!

Well, define "it blew"

 

I'd just fix it and drive the grand am, but if you really want you can swap the whole powertrain out and fix it, take off the tranny, build a hybrid, whatever, you have alot of options, just search for 3.1/3100 hybrid and you should find write-ups.

ya i wish i could at the moment i'll have to call her in the morning and find out really what happend to the engine...and well im trying to go the most economical route here...i gotta go pay 3'gs to the dentist n shit for a 3 tooth bride cuz of a stupid bar fight but! umm ya i found where i can get a salvage yard tranny swapped in for $555...sooo ya if i get the car for 3 bills..would i be able to break even at least?

ok well im going to pick it up tomorrow...i didnt know that the 60* degree engine is so versatile! ill update later with the swap! BTW the engine is locked up in it and I'm just gonna pull it n swap it out with my 3.1mfi block and stuff...its 1994 grand am se in MINT condition..im getting it for 350!!..so ya i'll let u know how it goes
