Supreme Cutlass
pulled off the radiator cap to check the coolant and found this; Here's the same stuff on a sheet of white paper. feels kinda like grease. Any ideas?
ToroToro
Doesn't really look like it, but it could be the stop leak SHIT GM puts in the cooling system that sludges up into a brown mess. That would be my only guess.
Supreme Cutlass
nope, I've never taken the car to GM or used stop leak.
1BadPrix
He ment the stop leak they put in from the factory when the car is made. Have you ever had your fluid changed. If it is the original fluid then it probably is the factory stop leak that has gunked up. William
5speedz34
Someone Jerked into your radiator............. J/K I wouldn't worry about it since these cars are so old. I would just flush it and be done wiht it.
Supreme Cutlass
I flushed the system over the summer, but now that I think of it I did replace the upper radiator hose, could that be it? I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a sign of gasket failure or anything serious.

No. Coolant doesn't really touch the cap, and when it does its not that often, leaving it able to dry and form a gunk. Clean the cap off and check it in a few weeks if you are really concerned. Supreme Cutlass
Ok, I checked and it's building up again... I'll probably flush it again with radiator cleaner, etc. in a week or so.
Canada
Did you put any additives in there? It sounds like you do the cut the radiator hose method of flushing.

I use the Prestone "flush 'n' fill kit" if that's the cut the radiator hose method...
