jmoss21 Posted May 21, 2006 Author Report Posted May 21, 2006 forgot to mention im talking about the rears thx in advance Quote
Series8217 Posted May 21, 2006 Report Posted May 21, 2006 Strut boots are not only uneccessary but are actually disadvantageous. They tend to trap moisture on the strut shaft and prevent its evaporation, leading to reduced life of the struts. However, if your strut bump stop was integrated into your old strut boot, you're going to have to cut the bump stop off and install that (you will have to disassemble the strut). Do NOT use struts without a bump stop. Quote

I don't have strut boots on my rears and they're still shiny after about 10k miles. Quote

SigEpCutlass Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Umm the boots are put there for one reason, to protect the struts. Use them if you can. If you forgot to put them on, I'm not sure it's worth the time and effort to dissasemble the entire thing again just to put them on. I guess it depends on how inexepensive or expensive the struts you put on are. Quote
Intlcutlass Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 If you just put the struts in, everything should still be pretty loose... I would take off one bolt on the bottom, and both bolts holding the upper mount to the car... dissasemble that part of the strut, and install the boot from there....That way you don't have to take the whole thing out of the car. Wait, how is that going to work unless you have the strut compressed? Quote
Intlcutlass Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Jack up the car under the spring......near the knuckle. You have to jack up the car to remove the wheel anyway..... Quote
