dkorinko
As many of you know i drive a 97 GTP. Current mods are, U Bend Delete, 3" Exhaust, Magnaflow Cat, No Mufflers, 3.25" Pulley, DHP PCM, MSD Wires, 3" Intake, 160 Degree Thermostat, and NGK Plugs. I am about to get ahold a small chunk of change and would like to intercool the car. I was planning on getting the 1100 dollar kit from zzp. I would also be getting a 3" downpipe and ported exhaust manifolds, or headers, that depending on how much $$$ i actually end up getting. I was just curious if there is anything else I should be watching out for. Will these mods require me to get the PCM re tuned??? I was just hoping that someone who has gone through the similar mods could give me a few pointers and let me know what to watch out for. Thanks guys. slowmontecarlo
Defiently going to need a tune. Just the PEMs and downpipe will probally bring your 02s down to the 880 range, which is really lean. Ive never installed an intercooler so Im not sure how the car would act right afterward. Im sure a dyno tune would get every bit of extra power outa the setup.
skalor
I would retune my car after every mod I do, but I have HPTuners. I'm sure with the IC you'll be able to run more timing so I would definitely get it retuned. Do you ever scan your car?? I just can't believe your running a 3.25" pulley with minimal mods without having a ton of KR.
dbtk2
As for the tune, you should be okay. The increased boost will be seen by the MAP sensor and you won't be anywhere near the power level of maxing out the MAF sensor so the computer will adjust for it. It won't be perfect, but it will still be pretty good. Not really anything to watch out for that I can think of. Good luck!

1BadPrix
Man you better come off that 3.25 inch pulley or you are going to lose the motor in a hurry. I have a xp cam with no exhaust yet and i cant even step past a 3.4 yet. Are you scanning that thing. Pistons get chipped or popped from just a little lean condition ( wot run). Just dont want to see another l67 get destroyed. With the mods that you have you should be at like a 3.5 pulley, a 3.4 with a good tune and slight to no kr. The almighty question is do you have a scanner. No modding without a scanner. Got to find out what the engine is doing. I lost my stock l67 block with only 77K miles and that was on a virigin motor. Please scan that thing. What i think you should do is return to a 3.8 pulley, then intercool that thing, get a downpipe and then get a smaller pulley but scan after everything i mentioned. Will He's only been warned about this about 100 times now. I don't know if he thinks we're kidding or what. Before he even put the pulley on we told him it was way to small for his setup. Like I told him before, its his engine not mine, let him blow it up.
dkorinko
It is just amazing to me that two local gp owners, are both running 3.25" inch pulleys, and all they have are borla cat backs, and an intake. Thats it! Whats extremely boggling to me is that one of them has been running that setup on his car for TWO years, both of which have scanned their cars and minimal amounts of knock. So I dont know if our climate or something has an affect on it but I am honestly getting tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. If the thing blows up, what the fuck does it matter to you guys? Its not your car, you can say you warned me, and put in your 2 cents. All i am asking for is advice on an INTERCOOLER setup, not another 5 page thread on how i should not have put a 3.25" pulley on my car. 1BadPrix
Ok there is no need to be a ass. We just didnt want anything to happen to your car and you come on here complaining. But to answer your question. Are you going full intercooler like the zzp stage 2. Depending on what you u are looking for the ss intercooler can do alot of things. 1. What are you looking for hp wise and speed wise? 2. What about the tranny? Let us know and we can better help u Will
dkorinko
I am looking for a mid to low 12 second ride, that i can still use to drive to and from work every day.... I would of course like to have the a/c stay in the car. Those are really about the only restrictions I have.
no1kicker
What's your elevation? That would play a role in what size pulley can be run safely. PEM's and a 3" DP are a good choice IMO, headers would probably be better, but I think TOG has gone out of business. Plus no welding req'd for PEM's, and it's not hard to do them. I agree with scanning the car, the good thing is both the mods you are planning should help reduce knock.
fathead45
comeon william, you should be able to go past a 3.4, i got a 3.25 on last night . yea i have a hard time believing you are having no issues with a 3.25 unless you like in alaska where its cold all the time. what do you consider minimal kr?? i saw a blip of 3 and that is too much for me. have any scans??
dkorinko
I believe the elevation here is right around 1800??? Give or take 200 or so lol.
dbtk2
If you want low-mid 12's like you say then you don't want PEM's. Those times will be much easier to reach with headers. You'll also want the full intercooler like you've decided to go with, plus you're gonna want to get a cam as well... Also, you'll want a trans because your stock trans won't last that long with that kind of power. So....$5k in mods later you're in the mid 12s, at least to get it reliable enough to drive everyday.
