dbtk2
I've been debating on what mods to do to my GP GT to make it quicker. I keep debating between going with a GT cam for it, or doing rockers, or electric water pump, I thought about just saving up for a turbo kit and doing that. But I got to thinking and there are quite a few people having very good luck with M90's on their GT's. So I've been looking around and I can find complete L67's for $500 in boneyards. I could probably find a blown up one cheaper than that. So I would just need to pull everything from the heads up off of it, plus idlers and whatnot, and I would be set. Bolt it all on to the GT, and it will be running pretty good. I need to find the engine, but I know I can find one for less than $500. I figure at the same time I'll put an XP cam in it as well. That way I get a pretty large gain all at once (should be over a second gain in the 1/4). It will be probably pretty late in the year when I do this, but thats what I'm planning on doing now. I just figure, looking at the L36 aftermarket, this would by far be the best bang for the buck. However, if I sell the Trans Am shortly here then the swap will get done a lot sooner. I thought I would let you guys know what my plans are. We will just have to see how well the bottom end will hold up to this, since by the time I do the swap I'm sure it will have well over 210k miles on it. Low-mid 13's here I come!!!! White93z34
its going to cost you an EASY $500 in gaskets and other assorted parts alone in just doing a top end swap , why not just get the whole thing for that much?

dbtk2
its going to cost you an EASY $500 in gaskets and other assorted parts alone in just doing a top end swap , why not just get the whole thing for that much? Gaskets will end up being a little less than $200, which isn't bad at all. That includes new head bolts, rocker bolts, cam bolt, and crank bolt as well. A complete cam install kit from ZZP is $113 (comes with cam, crank, and rocker bolts), add head bolts to that for $29.99 from ZZP and you're at $143. FelPro head gaskets are $22 each at autozone, so then you're at $187. That should be everything I need other than fluids and rtv. I'm not sure what you're talking about "get the whole thing for that much," but I assume you are talking about getting the whole L67. An L67 will have 8.5:1 compression, my L36 has 9.5:1 compression, I want the 9.5:1 which is the reason behind keeping my bottom end. Plus getting an L67 that is in good running shape will probably cost me more than I'm looking to spend, if I can find a blown up one it will be cheaper. that sounds awesome man, good luck and if you need any help, i can lend a hand. I'll probably be doing it at home, but if I end up doing it here at school I'll definately let you, stoney, and fathead know first.
digitaloutsider
What are you doing about the transmission?

dbtk2
What are you doing about the transmission? Nothing. Its just like the trans in the L67 cars just with a different differential, differential housing, and passenger side axle. Other than that its the same. My trans was rebuilt ~30k ago and seems very strong. It shouldn't have any problem holding up to the power I'm gonna have. There are quite a few L36 guys doing either an L67 topend swap or an M90 swap using ZZP's SS kit and most of them have done nothing with the trans, not to mention some of the turbo guys running 12's on the stock trans. Tim from ZZP ran well into the 11's with his stock trans in his Turbo GT. If I end up having problems I might put an HD diff in it, but I don't suspect many trans problems with the power level I'll have. Now if I start doing mods other than what I'm gonna do during this swap, I'll probably have to worry about the trans, but I'll worry about that when I get there.
