Rabbi Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Well i think i found my problem today, Ive been losing coolent at a steady pace latly. I just threw a new tstat in and was bleeding the coolent. Well my light came on so i shut the car off and added coolent along with coolent into the overflow tank to see just how fast i was losing coolant. well i noticed when bleeding the system coolant was bubbling out from under my front left spark plug wire........ Im guessing headgasket? there was an absolute ton of coolant to,The funny thing is the motor still runs smoothly and doesnt overheat. Although the coolant seems pretty dam hot the temp on the meter stays about normal or a little above. sad day for the z34 indeed. Quote
Rabbi Posted May 17, 2006 Author Report Posted May 17, 2006 also I get Steam/Smoke from the front exhaust manifold area theres no coolant in the oil! my front cam cover & head stay hot loooong after the car has been sitting. Quote
White93z34 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 wait.... your getting your spark plug hole filled with coolant??? i cannot see that as being a good thing at all. Quote
luminal67 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 with your engine running, take off your radiator cap and watch the coolant. watch to see if it is bubbling or kind of spitting up. If it is a head gasket, you will be loosing some of your compression through your cooling system. Quote
Rabbi Posted May 18, 2006 Author Report Posted May 18, 2006 yep coolant in the spark plug hole, took rad cap off no bubbling but plenty of steam seems the entire engine is heating up FAST. Quote
Rabbi Posted May 18, 2006 Author Report Posted May 18, 2006 checked the oil today and it looked normal, although a little tiny bit watery Quote
GP1138 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 yep coolant in the spark plug hole  Quote
Rabbi Posted May 18, 2006 Author Report Posted May 18, 2006 i ripped the lower intake off today and the gaskets look like they need to be changed, But they arent THAT Bad could coolant get into the spark plug holes if the LIM gaskets were bad? i wouldnt think so but i really dont want to rip the heads off Quote

Bossman429 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Could be a head gasket or a cracked head or both........Pull the heads at least to replace the HGs, send the heads to a good machine shop to check for cracks. Hope for the best. Quote
Canada Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 I'm thinking what Bossman is thinking. Just because you don't have compression gases in the cooling system, doesn't mean that the head gaskets aren't leaking or blown......it just means that gases aren't getting into the cooling system. If you don't have any smoke, it means that there is a crack in the head, leaking coolant above the spark plug....but not into the cylinder. Be sure to tell the machine shop that it was filling that spark plug hole up......they'll look a little harder. When you get the head off, if that cylinder is cleaner than the rest, coolant was leaking into that cylinder. Quote
