3100 to 3400 or 3.4 DOHC engine swap

Ok heres the deal, my 3100 is just about dead with close to 170,000 miles on it so I need a new motor. instead of replacing it with a 3100 i wanna do a 3400 or a 3.4 DOHC swap for the power. they shoulda never made the cutlass convertibles with a 3100 because the car is jus too damn heavy. My questions are what would be a better swap for my ride and what all will i need to do to swap it over from a 3100 to a 3.4 or 3400, i kno the 3.4 will jus drop right in with minor mods but im not sure about the 3400

jay. with the exception of a few small things, the 3400 is the most direct swap and can use your 3100 ECM and injectors. if you need help hooking things up let me know.

(and yes, I agree DOHC, but 3400 would be easier)

so the only dif is probably jus the dog bone right, other than that itll bolt up to my 3.4 DOHC tranny mounted to my current 3100, computer will work and all that good stuff. what about the power differences

i believe the tranny and computer will work (probably eventually want to get the right computer), but i think the lower mounts are what's different, making some custom work. *I think*

all the swap to a non w-body 3400 needs is the mounts(lower and dogbone bracket) swapped from the 3100 to the 3400. physically otherwise it is the same engine on the outside. aside of the EGR differences over the years and exhaust manifold outlet differences over the car lines.

i guess ill do a 3400 swap then. Pat, be expecting a visit pretty soon, as soon as i get the 3400. well i kno the power increase because last summer i got roasted by a GA GT with a cold air intake and a custom flowmaster exhaust. left me in the dust.

not performance wise, but its by far an easier swap, easier to work on(loads of room in the engine bay), and is not as expensive to repair, the alternator isn't in the bottomless pit, and it doesnt have a timing belt to keep up on. plus you'd about need a complete running donor car because of all the little things that are different.
