kfahn
I have read many posts about tranny coolers, but none seem to address how much they are to put in and what is entailed in doing it if you do it your self......Any help?
Robby1870
Me and my Dad put a tranny cooler in our old Dodge Caravan. Its reall easy, just gotta run a couple of lines to the radiator and to the tranny fluid lines themselves. Then find a place to mount the cooler, that would prolly be the hardest part on a W-body. The one we got, came with instructions and took us like 30 min to an hour one night, in the rain. Robby
JS91Z34
There are different size tranny coolers. They vary in price depending on manufacturer. The best one I've seen is made by B&M. I think it sells for 120 bucks and it comes with its own cooling fan, adjustable thermostat, relays and wiring. The best one I've seen so far. I have one on my T-Bird. 1trucavalier
there are so many different types of coolers its up to you. Most are fairly easy to install. You are usually talking about 2 hoses either hose clamped or screw in. I have seen then range from $35 to $250.
GrandPrix34
how bout just adding a powerful 12V fan infront of the stock tranny cooler, w ould that be a good investment? Robby agreed it wouldnt hurt so wat do you all guys think?

91GranSport
We have stock tranny coolers? Geez, I gotta check this out. Well, maybe mine doesn't. I would like to have a transmission temperature gauge somewhere on my dash though, I think that'd be cool.
1trucavalier
you can put the sensor right on the lines that come out the tranny to. I will do that one day.
JS91Z34
I have a quite a few guages in two of my cars. The only thing I can say about them is there annoying. I have a trans temp, air/fuel ratio, boost, nitrous pressure, oil pressure, water temp, and oil temp in one of my cars. That is just too many guages to look at while your driving. There are very nice to have though!
rglguy
i had this notion, what does everyone think, use an old condeser from a car, its big, will cool nicely, take another 3 litres of fluid, but worth the investment
1trucavalier
that could also be bad. if you add more fluid thats more that goes in gets heated and has to be cooled. That issue came up on another board when a huge 2 section BE COOL oil/tranny unit was used where you had to add more than the normal 4-5 quarts of oil and the temperature of the car got hotter if the fan wasn't on so basically you had to run the fan consistantly especially if you are sitting in traffic. The best thing to do is just get a cooler similiar to stock add a fan if you like and call it a day.
