3.4 O-Pump O-Ring

Ok, i read the FAQ about the O-Ring and other things. My understanding, for the 3.4 0-Pump 0-ring i will have to remove the head. I read somewhere that you could grind some of the flange off.

Now that screwhole holds the lower intake down, its located near the coolant channel, how vital is it? How would I go about grinding it down to remove the drive shaft?

And will that give enough clearence to remove it? This is probably the most cautious thing I have done with the Z34, so I need to make sure I dont ruin something.

You could just remove the head to make sure nothing gets broken. Might take longer and cost a little extra, but at least you'd know you didn't mess it up.

That is true, but I have everything taken off and was hoping to fix this problem. It leaks too much oil. Think I'll have to do it next weekend. I'll just buy a master gasket set and redo all the gaskets i can.

Unbolt it, slide it up as far as it will go and silicon the hell out of it. It's not the "right" way, but it's not really hackjob either, and it probably won't leak again.

Fixed one with an old smallblock Chevy distributor gasket and Hi-temp RTV. Grind a small groove in the top of the dummy shaft so you can raise it about 1/8 inch or so by lining up the groove with the cyl head. Clean the hell out of the mating surfaces with Brakleen, allow to dry, then RTV the shit out of the gasket, cut a small slice in it a snake it in around the dummy shaft.

Tighten up the bolt, allow to cure minimum 24 hours. That dummy shaft nevetr leaked again up to when we sold her car several years later.

Thank you all for all the info. its curing now, so we'll see tomorrow. i feel kinda stupid. I was working on my car for like 9 hours. Got everything to the block off, ground down some of the flange pull the drive shaft up, cleaned up around it, tried to figure out what i wanted to do. I figured I'll just pull the head next weekend and fix it. Then I got it all back together. Well thats when things started going wrong. There was some kind of vacuum leak, I couldn't find it. And I forgot to put that clamp thing back on for the drive shaft, so oil was leaking like hell. There was oil leaking down the exhaust, toward the Cat. It was smoking like hell. So then I had to take it all apart. Found out that vacuum leak wasn't as it appeared. It was a missing O-Ring on one of the injectors. So I bought new ones and replaced them all, cheap and extremly important. Then i did what was mentioned, got a gasket that fit, and RTVed the hell out of it. After its all said and done, everything is running smooth. I really only started to work on it to replace the plastic line for the PCV valve.

Good job. Glad it helped. The hell with pulling that head if you don't have to.

Unless you are very anal about your LQ-1!!
