Euro Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 my dad noticed a couple good sized spots on our driveway yesterday, from my car. it stayed in the garage last night, and no drips on the ground when i got home today...... and i just had it on the lift at a muffler shop, and saw it was leaking oil on the cradle right below the oil filter. Myself, I , just changed the oil on saturday, and the leak just started within the last couple days also, when i check the dipstick i havent lost any oil, its still at full where we put it on saturday. so am i correct to guess that I didnt tighten the filter down all the way? 5speedz34 Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 aight thanks tony, ii'll keep my eye on it in the next day or so, and see what happens Make sure you didn't overtighten it also. Quote
Euro Posted May 3, 2006 Author Report Posted May 3, 2006 im pretty sure i didnt....i tightened it using my hand, then did a 1/2 turn with the filter wrench Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 is it possible that the seal was somehow damaged? Quote
Euro Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 on the filter? i dont think so, it went on perfectly straight Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 The only way it could be damaged is if Matt crossed the threads. It's probably just not on tight enough. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 No, was the seal on the top of the filter damaged at all? You know how you usually put a light coat of oil on the rubber seal thats on top, was that damaged right out of the box? Quote

Euro Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 nope i lubed the seal with oil before i put it on....seal looked fine probably just not on tight enough, but im still not losing any oil, and it hasn't dripped any in the last 24 hours, so....hey maybe the spots were from the actual oil change... 19Cutlass94 Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Its possible. But as long as your not loosing any more oil! Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Its possible. But as long as your not loosing any more oil! Definately possible. Quote
trainman Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Make sure the muffler shop didn't leave the old seal in place...sometimes they do stick to the block. In this case you would have 2 seals(leak) I had this happen to me once. Quote
Euro Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 well the car was at the muffler shop for a front end "noise" that my dad kept hearing, so he insisted i take it in to see what was up(didnt find anything, which i knew they wouldn't) and while it was up there i saw where it had leaked from Quote
1990lumina Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 My car was leaking from the oil filter in winter....just grab it, and tighten it lol.....I tightened mine by hand and it's been no leaks since. Quote
