bigdman Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 i'm getting a beautiful 94 cutlass supreme sl with a 3.4 DOHC. the car was donated to my vocational school becuase of a bad engine but the body is in exellent shape! the previous owner forgot about timing belt maintence and it snapped. so my teacher said he would sell me the car for $125 if i towed it away  so i bought it, but now i need to know if the engine is repairable or if i just have to get a whole new engine. Psych0matt Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 if its the timing belt thats really whats wrong with it, spend about 200$ and a weekend to do it yourself, and you'll be set Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 That obviously assuming nothing else went wrong, but it should probably be okay! Quote
bigdman Posted May 2, 2006 Author Report Posted May 2, 2006 how do i realign all of the cams? i have also heard that you should replace the water pump when you do the belt is this true. Quote
slick Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I might be able to sell you the engine out of my 1993 Z34. It has a 95 crate engine with 10.5:1 compression. Quote
Psych0matt Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 ive always used the factory marks on mine, and that's worked out fine. I've done it twice now that way just fine. just make sure the crank gear is lined up to the little notch to get it at tdc, and then line both pairs of cams with the marks facing each other Quote

joey b Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 we talked about interference engines like a week ago find that thread. Also, where are you located? I got some time this week. Quote
bigdman Posted May 11, 2006 Author Report Posted May 11, 2006 well i took part of the timing cover off today and was shocked to see that the belt was still on there! when i got the car they said the timing belt snapped and nobody but me has messed with that car since it got there. any ideas of why this guy might have thought the belt snapped and what the problem might actually be? Quote
Psych0matt Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 well, there is the unlikely hood that the timing chain snapped, but only other thing i can think of is maybe something else small happened that would have the smilar effect of a timing belt snapping ( aka, turning over but not starting. fuel pump or soemthing perhaps) Quote
