Location of PCV valve

In the rear valve cover.

You may have to rock the engine forward to get to it. I can get it on my Beretta just fine, but I think W bodies make it a little harder.

really i thought it was on the front valve cover.....lol whoops

Its on the front valve cover on a 3100, but on the rear on a 3.1L. Its pretty much dead center on the rear valve cover.

it would probably easy to get at it from underneath if you had a manual transmission but if you have an auto i would either rock the engine forward or remove alternator bracket. you may need to replace the 'S' shaped hose too but you'll have to pull the plenum off to do that.

er.. I think whatever tranny you have, it'll be more of a pain in the ass to get it from the bottom of the car. Not that it's easy to get from the top, either, pos.

thanks, should i just get at it from the bottom of the car or would that not work

Shouldn't need to, I didn't have to with my 3.4 and I may be wrong but isn't there a bit more room on a 3.1?

I just did a tune-up on my 90 gp 3.1. I got the PCV thinking it would be easy to replace but as these guys mention, it is very difficult to get too. You will have to rotate the engine and on my car the rubber elbow was rock hard and there was no way i was getting it off cause the rubber elbow is very short and connects to a hard-line right after the bend. THe elbow does sau PCV with an arrow on it so its easy to see where it is. On my car there was no way it was coming off without taking the upper intake manifold off-thats why i said screw it and didn't change it. What a PITA-I don't know what GM was thinking when they made these engines, they are rather difficut to work on even for routine maintence.

I agree with the saying that the location of that pcv valve is in a very bad location. However,I can rock the engine and get it off fairly easy now...since I know what to do and etc...had the same problem with the rubber hose, hard as a rock.Lucky the hose on my engine just split a tiny bit on where it sits over the pcv so I was able to reuse it without any vacuum leaks.

The pcv should be on the front and that pipe on the front cover should be switched to plug into the back valve cover.Btw,every 3.1 engine i worked on,with 100K miles or more, had the original pcvs!

I wonder why????

 :willynilly:
