Calvin Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I have to go to the GR Mich area to pick it up, any volunteers? Its a 2001 out of a Gen2 W (Impala) I need the advice of 3x00 swappers please! So far what I gather I need is: 1) Bigger saturated injectors, something in the neighborhood of 17lb/hr 3.4 Camaro injectors, since I gather my injectors currently are 14.7lb/hr and that is about small enough to have to go static to fuel my new engine at WOT (since the BSFC@WOT is about .5 for the 3400, 14.7/.5=29.4 lb/hr is not enough to make even the factory 180 hp.) 2) Tunercat $6D definition or other that will let me change injector constant as well as cylinder size. 3) Method of connecting fuel lines with threaded fittings to quick-connect fuel rail. 4) 94-96 GP throttle cable? I have been told the stocker from the 2.8 is a no-go. 5) 92+ GP radiator? I have been told the lower water outlet of the 660 changed diameter in down to 1.25 in 1992 6) I am assuming my AIR pump will still bolt on, as well as my 1989 style AC compressor and all those goodies, is that right? 7) Anything else I am forgetting? Guest TurboSedan Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 i sold patgizz my 3.1 VIN 'T' injectors awhile back so he could use them in his 3400 swapped Lumina. from what i've read he seems to be happy with the 3.1 chip & 3.1 injectors in his '00 3400. for radiator i would probably get a thicker one from an LQ1 car. i'm kinda curious why you'd want to keep the AIR pump? i'm guessing there isn't even a provision for the AIR pump on the 3400's rear exhaust manifold. Calvin Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 Something about keeping the emissions control devices stock looking in case I have a problem with emissions when I go back to TX. I guess I am just paranoid. I don't even know if the ECM has any control over it or not anyway. Part of the paranoia comes from the old engine being a marginal pass in emissions (as far as I am concerned) What were your experiences with the throttle cable thing? Did you have to swap some TB linkage parts around? I have seen posts by J body guys lamenting this. Kurt Quote
patgizz Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 actually the 3.1 injectors and chip worked awesome at idle. above idle there just wasn't enough fuel. brian P has my 3400 in his car now definitely needs a custom chip tuned for the bigger engine and the injectors you use. you also will need radiator hoses for a gen1 3100 car, as well as you need the power steering pressure line for one(along with the 3x00 pump). your alternator bracket will work on the 3400 however i had to clearance it for the rear valve cover. your alternator will not bolt into the 3400 bracket. your ac compressor will. but the 3.1 and 3400 use different bracketry. the 3x00 uses separate brackets for the AC and the dogbone. the 3.1 uses one giant bracket for this. Cool, thanks for the info!! BTW, I contacted Tunercat and they added some more tables to their $6D file just in case anyone else is considering doing tuning for their 88-89 swap. They even added the NV stuff for the man trans. Kurt Quote
